Physically-Challenged Gamer Hacks Together Custom PS3 Controller 50

Destructoid has a neat post about a gamer whose condition prevents him from using a standard video game controller. With the help of a company called GimpGear, which markets devices for people with limited mobility, he designed and built a custom input device that makes use of fingers, toes, and even sips or puffs of air to control his favorite games. Pictures and a video of the setup are both available in the post.

Submission + - Conservapedia - a Christian rival to Wikipedia

99luftballon writes: A rival to Wikipedia has been launched by Christian conservatives to counter left wing and anti-Christian bias in the online encyclopaedia. Conservapedia (warning site very slow, both to load and in content) seeks to address the biased Wikipedia, which uses CE rather than AD for dating (and is thus anti-Christian) and contains many pages that do not deal with Christian 'facts'. A summary of such facts include the news that atheism is responsible for bestiality, Einstein's work had nothing to do with the atom bomb and Christianity is the only religion which is based on faith. Home schooling has a lot to answer for...

Submission + - BBC Reported WTC7 Collapse Before it Happened.

zero_jd writes: "A video was recently posted to Google which originally aired on BBC world between 16:54 and 17:36 EST on September 11th, 2001. In the video, a report came in that the Salomon Smith Barney building (aka: World Trade Center 7) had just collapsed due to a weakened structure. The report, however, had come in some twenty minutes prior to the actual collapse of the building. The video then cuts to a live correspondent in New York speaking with downtown Manhattan in the background. While she is discussing the collapse with the news anchor, WTC7 is clearly still standing in the background behind her. Then, just minutes before the building actually collapsed, her feed was abruptly cut. Despite Google Video containing numerous copyrighted BBC documentaries, another embarassing BBC moment (the taxi driver incident), and 9/11 conspiracy videos, several copies of this particular video were removed within 24 hours. New copies are curretly continuing to appear, but it seems abundantly clear that someone wants them taken away. The conclusions to be drawn are left to the reader, of course."

Submission + - Gamers perform better on surgical skill test

Blindside writes: Are surgeons who are also gamers at an advantage in the operating room? A new study showed that gamers had a distinct advantage in a surgical skills test. 'Neither years of training nor number of surgeries performed would predict performance on the laparoscopy skills test. Past gaming and current skills, in contrast, would. Those who had never gamed took significantly longer to complete the skills test, and had an error rate of roughly 1.5 times that of regular gamers. Similar correlations also held when gaming skills were tested: those scoring in the top third made nearly 50 percent fewer errors, and and performed the drill nearly 40 percent faster. For those keeping score at home, Super Monkey Ball 2 had the best correlation with surgical skills, Star Wars Racer Revenge the worst.'

Submission + - Why should I care about global warming?

An anonymous reader writes: Everyday, I hear about global warming/climate change. But no one ever states why I should care. Can someone give me a compelling reason in a single sentence why I should care about global warming? Really, what is the big fuss about? Is it because you are concerned that the human race will die out? I do not find this concern compelling enough for me to stop driving a SUV, flying in a jumbo jet, using the A/C or keeping the heater on in the winter. Ultimately, our planet will die anyway when our sun dies. I just wish someone could give me a very simple reason why I should care personally about global warming.... a reason compelling enough for me to want to keep the A/C off and be less comfortable.
