surely he knew to check his balance he only needs to plug his public key in to google? why install a 3rd party app?!
Except that his total balance might be scattered across possibly hundreds of public keys.
10.2 - the first usable version
10.4 - the first mature version
10.6 - the last thought through, coherent version
In my opinion....
And not only yours. I may not be the best example but I one stopped using plain Ubuntu once they changed [back] to gnome and I spent far too much time trying to make it still work for me.
How is this any easier than knowing we both start at 9AM, but you are 3 time zones behind me?
In that particular case it is not easier. But please note - it is also not more difficult! Just about the same. In tons of other cases we can avoid lots of errors and lots of efforts needed to maintain the timezones. If you agree on a time - everyone on the whole globe knows exactly what you mean and what this time means for each and every one of them. No lookups, no calculation errors, no additional confusion about whether that particular location has not only a timezone but also maybe DST (sic!) and whether that particular timezone sits at full hour UTC or maybe with some offset (yes - there are timezones with other than full hour offset - if you didn't know) etc.
What are the chances of the world agreeing on a universal time zone? There is UTC but it favours Western Europe.
Very Slim. Mankind is so inert and stubborn about the timezones anachronism.
I'm not saying that we couldn't live with a UT system, just that it isn't any better than time zones
You mean the fact that we can once and for all forget all the "timezones" with all related confusion and costly errors isn't better than having always to remember about the possibility of the numbers meaning a different time than you thought, double-checking that and still making errors? Right, if everyone you communicate with lives in the same "timezone" as you - that's not an issue. But it won't be an issue if you switch to UTC either
So if UTC is implemented do you expect everyone to start and end their work day at the same time UTC? If not and you try to call someone from L.A. at 16:00 UTC they probably still won't be reachable on the East coast at that time (assuming they still want to work at the same relative time that they currently do).
When I call someone at 1600Z (aka 16:00 UTC) I know exactly what time is at the place I call. Whether he/she is at work at that time is another story. I need to know what time I find him at work. And if I call the office number and hear "our office hours are 18:00 to 02:00" (instead of say 9am to 5pm) I know _exactly_ when to call, without looking anything up like what "timezone" the 9am to 5pm was meant and how does that 9 to 5 relate to "my" 9 to 5... So nonsensical yet so much defended by supporters of this useless anachronism called time zones
The Military uses Zulu time specifically because it works better.
So does aviation / flight planning. And so does everyone everywhere where confusion and errors caused by the useless timezoning is not an option. You understand this. A handful of other people understand this. But look how many "upvotes" the post you responded to received
