The EMF from a normal computer isn't even remotely a problem, the magnetic field from the base station is very strong.
Define reasonable distance. In this case it has millimeter accuracy to 6 feet from the base station, with slightly less accuracy out to 8 feet.
You don't need a slew of sensors, just one magnetic sensor for each axis per controller (read: three).
