I first became aware of this when my kids came home from school the first day with a 4 digit number written on their forearm.

It reminded me more of a concentration camp move than big brother.
Especially since last year they had a card they showed and about an hour after lunch I could log into the parent portal and
see what they got for lunch. So it's that much different than last year.

The Nazi's tried that same defense and we executed them anyhow.

The girl’s mother said the incident has taught her daughter a lesson, but not the one her teachers intended.

Yeah. Your teacher and the superintendent are either incompetent or unable to think for themselves. Neither is suitable as a role model.

In the computer world, we're all taught to install firmware updates only if there is a real problem because a large percentage of firmware updates actually brick the hardware or cause other unforeseen consequences.

I take issue with your basic premise that firmware updates are bad.
Blades, blade chassis, SAN, tape library, etc. When there is a problem one of the top 10 questions will be "Is your firmware up to date?"
I regularly update firmware as hardware moves through it's lifecycle. The one exception I have is on some Raritan IP KVMs, where the
manufacturer advised me not to update the firmware unless I'm having an issue. But again that is the exception, not the rule.

Okay. But what's the logic of making cartoons of children having sex illegal (as is the case in Aussieland). Where's the victim? Where's the crime? This is nothing more than morality enforcement except now instead of the Catholic church doing it, it's the government.

First, all laws are based on somebody's definition of right and wrong, i.e. morality.

Second, if it is illegal then it is a crime. However I think you were trying to make the point of "who is damaged" in the
scenario. Well, you seem to have made the assumption that there is no damage to individual who "uses" child porn.
I'd like to know how many studies or testimonies of previous "users" will it take to convince you that it is/does

Third, I'd like you to honestly think to yourself if you would have the same opinion if someone drew cartoon images of your wife, daugther, mother, or sister being raped.

Lastly to address your comment about "land of the free," I'll just quote John Adams:
“Our constitution was made for a moral and religious people; it is wholly inadequate for any other.”
