Actually, centrifugal force plays an important role as well.

I don't think the EU proposal goes far enough.
Then you don't build websites.
Cookies are the only way to make the web stateful. (Well, not really, but all other ways have just as much privacy implications as cookies.)
The web is a lot more useful if it is stateful. Period.
Now, if people want to stop their browsers from doing that, I'm fine with it, and website designers should be aware that this may have happened and degrade gracefully.
Likewise, web designers should carefully consider if they need a non-session cookie.
But asserting that cookies should be banned simply because people collect large amounts of data is stupid. Why not simply ban attempting to correlate what sites people visit via cookies? Or, hell, require browsers to default to disallowing third party ones.
Saying 'Cookies are bad' is mindless and stupid. Most users actually want websites to remember what the hell they're currently doing. Like what terms they searched with last using what options, and what language they selected, and what point in the article tree they are.
"An act like this *should* haunt the perpetrators for the rest of their lives."
That is called REVENGE. Something that is not at all useful. I'd like to hope that we could evolve past this base need.
You seem to think that making this guys life harder will some how bring back the dead dude. It won't. You seem to think that this man being tortured will ease their hearts and make them happy.
...
I never said revenge or torture. How did you even get to that position? What is the matter with you?
I'm saying that people should remember and others should be allowed to remember the bad things done. Furthermore, the facts are the facts. They did kill someone. These people are trying to wipe the slate of their bad deeds simply because they served (part) of their time - they're on parole. This law that allows that is stupid. Perhaps the murderers can get a clean slate when the victim is no longer dead.
Allowing the facts of the matter to be posted on Wikipedia is not revenge or torture.
There has been a substantial rise in the premium for taking physical possession of gold bullion rather than holding it in a pool or via ETF. Draw your own conclusions as to why
As long as there are foreign investors willing to keep piling money into treasuries, it will not be a problem.
It will be a gigantic problem once they do stop piling into treasuries. What happens when Japan or China realize that they will never see a return on their investment as we repudiate our debt through inflation? At some point they will start selling their Treasuries, and American purchasing power will evaporate.
Now, I could agree with you that it may be a splendid time to invest in foreign equities, I myself put my bets in commodities.
All we need is for the government to get its head out of its ass and give money to people who truly need it
...
Are you kidding? Our government is over $10 TRILLION dollars in debt. It can't afford to bail out a lemonade stand, much less faceless banks or "people who truly need it" (whoever they are - who is to decide that anyway?).
Do fiat currencies collapse? Do empires collapse?
Oh yes, they do.
