Comment Re:I stopped paying my debt (Score 1) 272

Maybe you should look up the actual stats of what the majority of graduates are actually studying, because its not gender or racial studies. You need to step back from the kool aid. By far the largest share of majors goes to business and management. So maybe you should be angry at business majors for graduating and not starting businesses, or maybe, for the majority of them, it was just the default degree they could get while still boozing it up every other night instead of something like a science or engineering. Also if you happen to look up the stats, culture/gender studies grads on average actually have *almost* the same median wage as those with business degrees. So it is also not the fact that they cant get jobs either

Either way your outrage is misplaced, there is not a whole generation of gender studies grads out there living on the government dole not paying back their debts, it is an entire generation as a whole due to how college loans are setup and the increasing cost of college in general

Oculus already provides foveated rendering options in their SDK, and many games already use it (I noticed it while playing a game and happened to look at the extreme periphery you can see the much lower detail and blockiness of the lower resolution. So its already here, right now, the future versions are just to provide eye tracked foveated rendering so it applies to everything except where you are actually looking instead of a general periphery area

+1, even after introducing the 'algorithm' type format they still offered a chronological view for a long long time. It was my much preferred viewing method, it made it very easy to know where things started and ended (as well as made searching for things much easier when you could say 'hey I want to find that pic a friend posted back in august'). The 'algorithm' obscures all that to try to entice people to doom scroll god forbid they miss something. Some of that can be mitigated by just blocking as much as you can and learning to scroll fast past ads and just generally ignore things that arent from friends, but even friends posts having a jumbled timeline is annoying in your feed

This is why I quit FI and switched. Having every single part of my service in hangouts was awesome, chat, sms, voice calls, voicemail, transcriptions, no matter what device I was on or where my phone was. I believe a lot of that still works if you are a FI user, but only if you are a FI user which is probably the reason hangouts hasnt been completely retired because its so tied into a commercial service that they are trying to figure out how to kill.

Once they said they were killing hangouts though I figured it was time to move on since they would eventually be removing some of the best features of being on that service

You cant really use rainbow six siege as an example. Its an ongoing game that gets a new set of DLC each year. You can buy that current years gold edition to get the current year plus a handful of past years. If you want everything at once for that year then the "gold edition" is not what you should buy and you should look at "ultimate". However you will not get the next years content, not sure if you are expecting to receive all content in perpetuity for a game that receives massive updates multiple times a year for 5 years. Also the fact you dont have to buy ANY of the r6 dlc, you can easily earn everything those DLC packs come with

A lot of this changed when steam added refunds. Before refunds were the haydays of steam sales. They would still have flash sales, routinely dropping things that normally were only on sale for 50% to 75%, and so on down the line. The cuts in discounts were also greater. However once refunds were added all publishers scaled back the percentage discounts on pc games. Theres many AAA and other titles you can find that had their all time historical low prices before this introduction and have never hit those prices since.

Lots of interesting data out on steamspy (though all outdated since the guy who worked on it now works for epic and steam also removed access to a lot of that data)

Cant they just ask the streaming service to sign a contract, if we were to make a sequel to this, you will buy the rights at X price. If they sign it, sounds to me like it was successful enough. If they dont, well either you shop the property around to another streamer, or it wasnt good enough. As long as the studios made profit from selling the rights to a specific service that they deemed high enough, why would they not make another with a guaranteed purchase price

Needing basic metrics isnt necessary, its just the old/current way of selling media. Moving to a distributor focused model would be a big change from what we currently have with studio deals with certain theater chains and the like, where the studios hold most of the power, this shifts the power more to the distribution side. Same way a store doesnt really have to communicate any figures back to a manufacturer of a product, they just place their order for X units, pay for them, and then sell them via their own chains. Product stops selling, store stops buying that product

Sure, they might, but most of the time Ive been to a theater they have them tuned so horribly that they sound like shit. Besides a home setup is going to be in a smaller venue, you dont really need more speakers just to sound good and have proper audio field placement as long as your own setup is calibrated correctly

Audi is the same way, at least the smaller ones that are only a year or 2 old, I think their bigger ones are dual touch screens. Models like the A4 though just have a large enough LCD but no touch, everything is click knob and buttons for all functions (except the rare instance of text input which is done via drawing on top of the large control knob's surface). Also does the auto dimming and adjustable screen brightness, I think there is a single button to just turn off the display (I just rarely use it but Im pretty sure its there)

It was one selling point to me that there was no touch screen at all, everything is controllable via knob, and only took a couple days to get adjusted to everything without looking. Even navigating what would be a touchscreen via a single large knob and a couple buttons is quicker then a touch screen, Ive gained muscle memory already to know if I can just do a triple push of the 'radio' button to get it to 'my radio+sirius favorites' for example (though there is a strip of 10 radio presets mappable to whatever you want)

Everyone thats been in my car in the passenger seat usually comments about how much easier it seems to use everything in my car vs theirs with all touch screen and new fancy controls
