Comment Re: Most cars are not empty by the end of the day (Score 1) 376

I don't know anyone who just jumps in the car for 8 hours without having a little bit of a plan, at least. And no regular people I know can go 8 hours on just one tank of fuel. I fill up every 350 miles or so on a long trip--every 4 or 5 hours. At that point, it's time to stretch and maybe grab food anyway.

Intent. The word you want is intent. We can discuss throwing people down the stairs all we want, and even accidentally knock someone down the stairs and cause harm. For it to be prosecuted, there needs to be an intent to commit a crime. Speech, in and of itself, MUST be protected. Full stop.

I have charger blocks and cables kicking around the house for guests and such, keeping my primary one in the bedroom. But I also have health issues that mean I make frequent trips to the hospital, so I have one block and cable in my coat pocket; they leave the house with me every time. My watch and tablet both do wireless charging, and my phone has wireless power share. With that setup, I only need one charger to handle all my needs.

The Guardian ran the story a day or two ago with better detail. It has yet to show human to human transfer, but because of some similarities to the 2009 swine flu, it's hoped that those who get an annual flu shot will have some resistance, as the majority of vaccines are designed to protect against swine flu

In some cases, the search warrant is limited in scope. If witnesses say you're selling drugs from the fruit stand in the front yard, and surveillance is unable to determine from where the alleged drugs are coming to the fruit stand, a judge shouldn't approve a warrant for the house (until there's proof that there are drugs at the fruit stand, anyway).

My understanding is that the original charges were 2nd degree manslaughter and 3rd degree murder. Manslaughter 2 is "depraved indifference," i.e., the cop knew that his actions were dangerous and simply didn't care about the outcome. Murder 3 is also depraved indifference, but with the understanding that the cop knew he was using lethal force, not just dangerous, and still didn't care.

The charge of Murder 2 is warranted by the fact that the death occurred during the commission of a felony--the manslaughter. So, in this case, it's not being upgraded because they feel his intent changed, but because of the extreme disregard shown for Floyd's life. INAL
