This makes sense, especially if the 13 inch Macbook Pro is slimmed down to about the same size. The strange thing is I bought a 2017 iMac 5k and I am loving it.

I'd say that Apple is laying the foundation for the next several years of smart phones. iPhone X will be the best smartphone ever. Certainly, the competition is now working to copy it. The only complaint I have is the overall price. This is just Apples way of nudging us toward the future.

Its interesting that an Open Source API Apache Struts (likely a few jar files in a web application) caused this issue. Good old reliable and free Apache Struts. This isn't a simple run patch.exe and all is good scenario by some admin. You'd have to update the jars to the fixed apache versions (hopefully these exist), retest everything in the app, and rerelease it to production.

After working as a developer for 20 years, the company I had worked for "shifted focus" on new endeavors, so I had to find a new job. Most all jobs posted today are through some contracting company. I ended up having to "prove my value" for about 8 months until they hired me. As a contractor, I made about the same money, minus benefits, and paid time off, and no 401k. Very risky for a person to go through this, even if they are good at what they do. In the end it all worked out... but honestly... they should have just given me a job with benefits and PTOs. The labor market for IT is just brutal.

Competent developers get laid off all the time. I have seen it many times as their salaries are high. They can be replaced by a few cheaper, younger people from overseas.

I am optimistic about the possible lowering of HB1's in the country. It might not be the end all solution however it will make a positive impact for US technology workers. Getting a tech job today is very difficult and it shouldn't be as we have all this tremendous "Demand".

I totally agree. I am registered democrat but I work in the technical fields of internet and IT. I have seen so much abuse due to HB1 (and offshoring) which has impacted me personally. Right now, all I want is this allowed 'practice' to be shaken up.

This is wrong in so many ways. I have seen very skilled people leads, architects, etc layed off to be replaced either by HB1 visa or complete offshoring. Its not a matter of skills, its a matter of money.

This is great news for Nintendo. The marriage of Pokémon to Virtual Reality is a good one which makes this 'work'. They always had VR card games which came with the DS.... but to put this on cell phones which everyone has and combine it with GPS with Pokémon. While VR games and GPS has come before it, undoubtedly, like it or not, this ushers in a new style of gameplay, with lots of possibilities.

This sounds like a very defeatist attitude. Many of us technology professionals don't make widgets. I say the first people who should lose jobs are economists and CEOs.

I agree, that kind of talk is overboard. But... those professions (while it seems unlikely now) can meet the same fate someday.

I think it hurts a lot of people in technology. I have come to expect the people in the camp who say, maybe you should be a better worker, a better developer, etc etc. After 20 years in this industry, I can honestly say that is not true. However, there is clearly a fight with the business folks, who protect this practice in this country. They know who they are.
