Journal Journal: Well I'm officially a Linux geek...

Tho I have used Linux before, this is my first home install of Linux, now running Mandrake 10 on my home computer. Was an easy install 2, after tweaking a network problem I was 100%, sweet! Now on my comp I triple boot Windows 98 (the original OS, still has all my stuff tho), Windows XP (for the stuff I can't run on Windows 98), and Mandrake 10. All working beautifully :-)

Journal Journal: *sigh* my first unfair meta-mod today 2

Well I couldn't have a perfect record I suppose, I catch something I believe is off-topic (I'll keep it quiet which) and a meta-mod shoots me down as unfair, handing me my first unfair meta-mod ever *sniff*

Journal Journal: Today's interesting tech humor...

Receptionist says she has a customer call for me saying he couldn't get the database up and running and that he "shushed into they system to try, whatever that means..." being that I didn't have my first cup of coffee yet I didn't determine that to be SSH'd into the system, and that our receptionist was clueless, lightly amusing for the day :-)

Journal Journal: Moderators attack here!!! 2

In moderating (with my mod points I got today) I decided to pay a visit to the Schizophrenia story and see if there was anything worth moderating. After setting threshold to "-1" and "newest first" like I always do in moderating, WOW did I see some good stories told by 0 post anonymous cowards. I must've burnt three mod points on that Slashdot article alone. See sometimes it does pay to browse all the way down at that level.

Journal Journal: Poll results 1

Due to the overwhelming response to my poll *snicker*, I decided to go with the LED clock for now.

Actually more to the point, does anyone really care what kind of gadgets I order for my cube? Guess I should have thought of that before I started that poll :-p
User Journal

Journal Journal: Tekiegreg's Slashdot poll...

Just got a new job, but want a cubicle gadget or 2 to make things more interesting, posters aren't really an option due to cubicle dimensions, however I'm thinking about the following:

1) A LED Binary Clock

2) Some Seamonkeys

3) A levitating globe

Or fill in the blank with your own, however bear in mind you have a good chance of being picked if your favorite cube toy is under $40 and relatively small and non-intrusive or noisy. Have fun!

Journal Journal: AND AGAIN!!

I was down to spending my last mod point, then I just log in now "you have 5 moderator points" HUH??? I just don't get it now....

Journal Journal: Mod points again... 1

So for me it appears to be a weekly thing.

Ok and for this round of moderation, I will obey the whims of all my devoted fans. Anybody who has been a fan of mine for any length of time (not just somebody who decided to become a fan of mine because of this), can have any post modded any way they want, and I mean ANY way....so, any takers? Just reply here or email me if you'd rather keep it quiet (tekieg1-slashdot@yahoo.com) and I'll respond, but do it quick, this offer ends 48 hours from now!

Journal Journal: Solution for Trolls.... 1

Well, trolls always seem to be a problem on Slashdot, but I think I know what we need to do. Let's round up all the female regular readers on Slashdot (yes Tuxette, that includes yourself), we'll find all the Troll's real addresses, knock on their doors and the female readers will give them a big hug and kiss! After feeling the Slashdot love they'll never troll again! Chances are it may have even been the first hug they got from a girl (they may have never even been hugged by their mom!). Whaddya think? Are you all with me?? *sigh* I thought not...

Journal Journal: Mod points!!!

Well finally after about 3 weeks I get some more mod points. I think I'll poll the Slashdot crowd for creative ways to spend 'em. Can anyone think of an interesting way to spend your mod points that would still be in the fairness of the Slashdot community? Hoping for some interesting answers here before I start using them, have fun! By the way, if you post here asking me to mod up/down a specific post I'll ignore that request immediately so don't even try it...

Journal Journal: Well I'm back... 1

I'd have to admit, in Hawaii it's kind of refreshing to not think of Slashdot for awhile. There are no insensitive clods in Hawaii (in fact EVERYONE is nice!), in Soviet Russia, they come to Hawaii too (I met a Russian!) and in imagining a Beowulf cluster of Hawaiians I suppose you get a Luau. But it was fun, with lots of memories (and Bills...ugggh). However truly a honeymoon trip I'll remember forever. Oh and by the way I'm now MARRIED too! See fellow geeks there is hope :-)
User Journal

Journal Journal: Just a quick note... 1

Come Saturday I'M GETTING MARRIED!!! Consequently because of my one week honeymoon in Hawaii you won't see me posting. No email, no telephone, no nothing, will be nice to unwind anyways :-) so see ya all then!

Journal Journal: Moderation vs. Meta-moderation 1

There's been lots of talk about how the moderation vs. meta-moderation works. Many a user has complained about not getting enough mod points because they are a hardcore slashdot reader and being too extreme on the moderation bell curve (the moderation system picks those who are middle of the road readers more than anything else, or so it says). Anyways here is my 2cents.

As a viewer of slashdot with a probable aggregate of 80 page views/day (means I'm hardcore I suppose). This was gleaned through my browsers offline cache. I'm asked to moderate maybe once every 1.5 weeks or so. This is enough moderation for me to where I'm happy. I do however wish I could tone down the amount I'm asked to meta moderate. As I'm asked give or take 3 times daily. Gets a little annoying... CmdrTaco do take note...
