Comment Answers to the heist questions (Score 1) 80

1. Do affected parties have recourse?

You could file an antitrust complaint, esp. when a handover takes place.

As an ISOC member you could demand the sacking of Mr. Sullivan.

2. Other than polite letters, is anything being done? (Maybe: Official complaints have been filed, but don't expect results.)
3. Georgia Tech's Internet Governance Project has pointed ideas for ICANN. (You can .. join ISOC as a member to take part in future decisions.)

Run by Milton with his cold war US supremacist mindset.

4. Has anyone currently at ICANN + ISOC made substantive comment? (Yes: Richard Barnes, ISOC trustee and netizen, explains why he voted to sell .org.) Vint Cerf said: 'Hard to imagine $60/year would be a deal breaker for even small non-profits.')

Yes.

Andrew Sullivan: The total purchase price in this case is one billion 135 million dollars....when this opportunity came along we believed, because it involved investing in PIR, because it involved making sure that the non-profit sector is well served, and because it delivered us, essentially, a perpetual endowment for the Internet Society, we thought that it was good for everyone. We believe that it is good for the Internet and that is why we've done it.

Question Karima: "Is the equity firm, Ethos, planning on monetizing the data?"

Andrew Sullivan: I can answer that. There are very strict rules imposed by ICANN about what registries may do with the data that they have. And, those rules get stricter all the time. That's not actually a thing that is open to the new owners. They can't do that. There are some things that, I presume, they would like to use the data for and I think that they have some proposals for various kinds of services and optional services, and so on. Or, they have some ideas about that, that they would be building for this, but I can't speak to their business plans about those things. That really would have to be a question for Ethos.

5. How did we reach the point of Net pioneers embracing 95% profit margins?

ICANN is constructed as such, as an authorized cartel under the veil of multistaskeholder.

The shoa worked because you do not need many persons for an industrial killing process. It has nothing to do with mindlessness and involved breaking the rules to make it happen.

In the case of jumping bail it is clear that he has to suffer the consequences from that. He was fully aware of the consequences.

Concerning the extradiction to the US no one knows if that is going to happen. An extradiction to Sweden is completely harmless. But be sure that Brexit will make Assange a trade chip for their USUK FTA. Assange's propaganda may as well turn out to be fake.

In any case, he is not important.

Audis are on the road. Great cars. Great experience. Years and years of professional engineering.

Tesla however is production wise a dwarf. And regardless how broken the business concept, the quality, the production, the stock market announcements, Elon Musk is depicted as an equivalent figure of Stalin's person cult. The problem is, the figures show why he is bound to fail. You can foul capitalism but not the laws of physics and economics.

Comment Re:This is great (Score 1) 154

Well, from a German perspective the whole TESLA car company looks like a fraud. I have recently seen a TESLA on the streets next to my home, which has a sound like an electric wheelchair. Who would want to have it? Just around 300 are on German streets. That is near nothing compared to the daily 40 Elon Musk news reports and no, it is free trade across the Atlantic. If VW, Daimler, BMW etc. would order cars for tests they would have around 300 on the streets. No one made a convincing argument so far what the advantage of Electric cars over Diesel is. Even with motorcycles you don't buy the electric ones. So wake me up when bikers order electric Harleys!

Now TESLA got more cancellations than new orders. The production figures are a complete mess. The financial development is a complete mess.

I am starting to believe that capitalism does not work when a company without substantial sales and production backlog makes so much fuzz on the capital market. In the socialist German Democratic Republic we had the same. You waited ages for cars. The production failed. The promises were not met.

Comment Signing is only the start of the battle (Score 5, Informative) 82

Signing does not mean a thing because the European Parliament still has to decide whether to give its consent, and when a single nation asks the European court of Justice, or the Constitutional court then it's dead, because it is against EU Treaties/constitutions. it's not too late to get involved.

Submission + - France to launch a national patent troll (numerama.com) 2

zoobab writes: "France is creating a state sponsored patent fund, FranceBrevets, which primary focus will be to sponsor, acquire and license patents in the ICT (read software patents) sector. The patent fund is at the initiative of the minister of Research, Valérie Pécresse, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and digital economy, Eric Besson. The primary target of the fund is to collect licenses on those patents, which is already seen in France as the biggest patent troll of the country. France is also supporting the European Unitary Patent, which is seen by many at the final attempt to validate software patents in Europe."
