Yeah, that's what I don't understand about companies wanting to be paid for where the data comes from. I pay my ISP for access to the internet; why does the location that data come from matter? I PAID for bandwidth and possibly a data cap depending on where I live. Bandwidth I can't exceed and the data cap I get charged if I do exceed. I don't see this as Netflix's issue in any way.

Yeah, I don't understand all the "OMG ITS NOT UK ANYMORE" stuff. They OK'd the sale to a Japanese company; how does this really change anything? Why are they all upset now? nVidia said they were going to leave HQ in the UK and leave it fairly independent as it is now so assuming that's true it shouldn't affect competition. Seems too late to complain that a non-UK company is buying it...

Comment So no reason to upgrade! (Score 1) 44

They kind of went backwards from everything I liked about upgrading my previous Pixel devies (I've had 1XL - 4XL). I had free financing via Google Fi so didn't mind paying off the new device over the course of the usefulness timeline so kept updating. This is the first device that adds nothing on top of the 3XL or 4XL I use on a daily basis and don't see any reason to upgrade.

Kind of disappointed they don't have an 865-class device this time around...

So, ARM was sold to a Japanese company any they were fine with that but now it's being sold to another chip designer (US owned) they think the world is ending? If they really wanted to keep it in the UK they shouldn't have sold it in the first place. They seem worried about their home grown tech sector now but were fine pawning it off to Japan for whatever reason. Either you care and don't want to sell it to an outside company or you don't. Now that it's owned by Softbank, it seems too late to complain.

But forcing exclusivity on a platform is just as bad, is my point. They're arguing for competition and then go around and limit it on another platform using their marketplace.

I didn't say they weren't entitled to make money; I even said that I understand the service has value and Epic's point stands even if they are pushing the issue in the wrong way (as their 0% cut goes too far in my opinion). The issue at hand is the cost to the buyer and seller AND the forced platform they are required to use. The iOS app store and the Epic Games Store are both doing the same thing with exclusivity.

Comment Epic Games Store (Score 2) 181

The same thing on PC; they want freedom on iOS and Android but force PC players to use Epic to install games (and even run them) that are only available on their marketplace, paying the developers for exclusivity deals. Don't get me wrong; I do not want to go back to the wild west of game updates, downloading them from the developers' site and all manually so the infrastructure is definitely worth SOMETHING (which another reason I think Epic's current direct payment is still a bit bullshit even if the 30% cut is excessive). However, they do the same shit to make $$$.

I don't think restricting entry was to do with COVID; he's been trying to do that for years and the courts keep telling him he's a racist. He just found an excuse this time people would buy.

What else has he done that's been helpful? The White House is attempting to discredit Fauci because people are being stupid and not wearing masks and he's forcing people aside so he can take a photo-op in front of a church. He lies about testing, reporting, and anything else he can. I wish he had done this right; four years more of Trump would have been worth that. He didn't; he's incompetent. I feel Biden is losing it, too, but Trump is long gone and we can't do four more years of that.
