I suspect those numbers are grossly inflated, given Britain's short day

Do you not understand latitude and its effect on the length of the day? The average length of a day in the UK is very likely the same as where you live. In summer, days are very long in comparison to anywhere in the lower 49.

Crappy products are not the fault of all members on a team. Engineers specifically are hobbled by the constraints handed to them in terms of cost to build final product and cost to research the technology required. There would be lots of talent coming out of Magic Leap that reflects potential greater than the results delivered by the company's products.

I had it in my mind that the next general election was required to be held in 2024, but since that is wrong, let me adjust my percentages:
1. There is a zero percentage chance of a new government this year.
2. There is a 99% chance of a new government early next year.

The Tories are resigned to losing the next election, so their priority has changed to bunging as much cash to their wealthy friends as they can. They clearly have no shame and give zero fucks.

You have misunderstood the article.

What it is saying is that 60% (3 times 20%) of the electricity consumed in the UK could be produced by solar farms and onshore wind.

Just in case you are skeptical: Annual electricity demand in the UK was 310TWh in 2023 while this proposal is that onshore wind could produce 95TWh and solar 130TWh (from the article).

What's missing: Offshore wind and rooftop solar.

I learned OOP principles from reading Borland's Object Pascal manuals. I had "acquired" Turbo Pascal but saved enough from my newspaper route to buy Object Pascal when it came out and that set me up for a lifetime of documentation disappointment in everything after that. I guess a decade or so later O'Reilly started to close that gap.

I wonder how often incidents like these happen? Boeing is in the spotlight now, so these are likely to be reported more than usual.

This.

The very scary incident (plug falling out) gets lots of attention and suddenly other incidents, which would not have been newsworthy before, are now newsworthy.

When I walk into my doctor's office for a 3:00 appointment, my appointment actually starts at 3:00, not 5:30.

Where is this magical medical center? My experience of doctors in several states, going back decades is that, if you have an appointment at 3:00, the one thing you know is that it isn't going to start at 3:00.

I have experienced both healthcare in the US and the UK's NHS. The differences are that:
1. The US healthcare is expensive.
2. The US healthcare is delivered in locations with nicer furnishing.
3. You are much more likely to get unnecessary and expensive health services in the US.
