In PA at least the mail-in ballots require an external envelope with a pre-printed barcode that encoded your voter id. So that was scanned to verify the voter, and that the voter had not already voted, before the inner unmarked envelope with the ballot was opened and the ballot counted. so that is pretty secure.

that discussion was about votes made and tallied without paper, entirely on computers. Everyone came to their senses a decade ago. the actual practice is to either computer count human-marked ballots, or print out the selections and count those. In either case the paper documentary evidence of the ballots is preserved, just as we argued on Slashdot should happen.

the states themselves validated their votes
No state "unvalidated" their electoral votes
according to the Constitution it is the business of the states to validate their votes, which every single one did. There is not standing of one state to invalidate another state's vote for them.

and most importantly:

no republicans ELECTED ON THE SAME BALLOTS disputed their own seats, and were happily sworn in.

the issue is that people are remarkably sloppy in marking ballots, and people are notoriously error prone in counting them. research shows that machine counting is less error prone. this is proven by banks, who count a lot of money and are scrupulous about it, and use bill counting machines not hand-counts because it is more reliable. (not due to fraud - because people are error prone)

the status of signatures is irrelevant to the question of the voting machines. The voting machines correctly counted the votes that were fed through them. Other claims of fake ballots and related nonsense is also irrelevant to discussion of the voting machines. NO ONE has brought forward any claim or evidence that the machines miscounted the ballots that were fed through them.
