I grew up splitting wood to heat our home. LOTS OF DAMN WOOD! The only really innovative thing I see here is the chopping block with tire to hold the log being split in place. That is something I wish I had thought of 30 years ago. This axe design is something I've seen before and it's not new. There have been offset head axe designs before for jobs like squaring a log into a timber beam etc.

The amount of water needed to produce Ethanol should then be more than enough reason to ban Ethanol. Once we stop using food (corn) as fuel we can go back to proper agriculture where crops are rotated instead of farms increasing not growing other crops so they can cash in on the corn bonanza. The problems in California have nothing to do with rainfall and everything to do with Government Regulations from the EPA. http://westernfarmpress.com/bl...

In typical fashion though the Government regulates a problem into existence, hires "Researches" to say the new problem caused by Government Regulations is actually caused by something else that the Government is not yet regulating (but would like to regulate) and thus creating a public outcry for the Government to regulate another part of our lives and cause yet more problems. All why you sheeple are thankful the kind and caring Government is saving you from an evil made up boogyman.

CFL's DO NOT last longer. I've tested that theory a few times in my house and NONE of those that I bought (any name brand) lasted longer than the incandescent bulbs that had been in place before and after the CFL's died. I've stocked up on real light bulbs.

So now, AFTER the last manufacturer of incandescent bulbs in America has closed up shop they want to use some special rules or tricks to make them legal again. Too little too late. This legislation is a perfect example of how BOTH parties are lost to the average people. I'm very Conservative and was critical of Bush for signing this (as if he would have heard or cared that I was critical of anything he did) along with the rest of the RINO Republicans that went along on this. We used to have a thing called 'Free Markets' in this country and this law is just a shining example of how the Government is actually controlling the marketplace. In a few more years LED's will be effective AND affordable, there was no harm in letting those come to market on their own. However, there is harm in forcing the mercury laden CFL's into the marketplace. Now we have homes filled with little toxic bombs just waiting to contaminate (heart-string tug) our kids with mercury.

- Actually doing due diligence on first-discovery vs. the nonsensical "first to file"
- Actually doing due diligence to keep the Obvious and Trivial patents out
- Actually doing due diligence to be sure someone isn't trying to patent something already patented

I would argue that first to file is as important as first to discover. There are scoundrels and then there are SCOUNDRELS that even if they are doing discovery/invention that will falsify data to claim they were "first". The discover/invention process needs to be documented much like scientific method and independently verified.

The EU rule that a patent must be file before announcement is ludacris. Public announcement AND demonstration of a discovery/invention in fact should improve the standing of a patent application if we are really concerned with patent trolls.
