Red Hat Support Continues To Flourish 215

ruphus13 writes "As the pure-play Open Source companies continue to dwindle, Red Hat has thrived through the recession. Its support revenues have grown 20+%, and account for 75+% of its revenues. 'Instead of the traditional strategy of selling expensive proprietary software licenses, as practiced by the Microsofts and Oracles of the world, Red Hat gets the vast majority of its revenues from selling support contracts. In the third quarter of last year, support subscriptions accounted for $164 million of its $194 million in revenue, up 21 percent year-over-year. All 25 of the company's largest support subscribers renewed subscriptions, even despite a higher price tag.'"

iamapizza writes "New Scientist reports on the quest of two math boffins for the perfect way to slice a pizza. It's an interesting and in-depth article; 'The problem that bothered them was this. Suppose the harried waiter cuts the pizza off-center, but with all the edge-to-edge cuts crossing at a single point, and with the same angle between adjacent cuts. The off-center cuts mean the slices will not all be the same size, so if two people take turns to take neighboring slices, will they get equal shares by the time they have gone right round the pizza — and if not, who will get more?' This is useful, of course, if you're familiar with the concept of 'sharing' a pizza."

caffiend666 writes "'Marge Simpson is posing for Playboy . The magazine is giving the star of The Simpsons the star treatment, complete with a data sheet, an interview and a 2-page centerfold. 'We knew that this would really appeal to the 20-something crowd,' said Playboy spokeswoman Theresa Hennessey. Playboy even convinced 7-Eleven to carry the magazine in its 1,200 corporate-owned stores, something the company has only done once before in more than 20 years." Worst issue ever!

If you mount your ext4 partitions with nodelalloc you should be fine. You will of course no longer benefit from the performance enhancements that delayed allocation bring, but at least you'll have all of your freaking data. I'm running Debian on Linux 2.6.29-rc8-git4, and so far my limited testing has shown this to be very effective.

So says a study from the Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) group at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. But reports of the Internet's imminent demise are greatly exaggerated, says Ed Cone of CIO Insight. "An Internet that is broken or seriously impaired at its core would obviously be bad for business in all kinds of ways...but as in the case of the most notorious prognostication of impending disaster, made in 1995 by Ethernet co-inventor Robert Metcalfe, the doom seers seem likely to eat their words. In fact, the supply of available bandwidth, especially at the core of the net, looks healthier than the pessimists would have it — or even bother to support with hard numbers when pressed to defend their arguments."

The design is sturdy (as opposed to a helicopter) and can fly high (as opposed to a hovercraft). It is based on the Coanda Effect."
