And having just put my dog down last night, it could be worth every penny. (she was 15 years old, started having seizures, etc. a few weeks ago, stopped eating Tuesday, wouldn't even eat venison yesterday morning)
A counterpart to me at a different college explained it this way to his boss (the provost....)
"It gives a lot of comfort knowing we can walk down the hall to the systems folk or the developers and smack 'em on the head and say 'WTF are you doing?!?!'"
Problem I always have using nano instead of joe is that ctrl-K+X saves and exits in joe, but ctrl-K deletes your current line in nano.
I don't know how many times I've said "oops... exit, no save..." and started over on my changes due to this
to me non-blue bubbles mean "ok, they may or may not get the message based on my signal, their signal, etc". and "don't send pictures w/o resizing somehow first"
Of course, I'm rural and will float between SOS only levels of signal and one little tiny bar if I'm not on my wireless. Things get better mostly about a mile or so from the house in any direction.... if I changed providers that could change (there is a Verizon tower near by, a coworker that lives 2 miles away uses it for his home internet, and the tower is between our houses), etc. but that hassle isn't worth it to me
Well if they had tried a few years ago they could've said "blockchain" and been buzzword compliant and probably have had multiple offers of private companies to do it all...
Dunno if you consider academia to be corporate enough, but I've seen some crazy stuff on staff, faculty, and lab machines
"People who worked on GNOME used to visit this place and now they wouldn't come here if a gun was held to their head."
Given that Gnome is brought systemd down upon us all and the general hate for that here, I can understand why the GNOME devs wouldn't be so public about their involvement....
Not just with game play and graphics and such, but also by relicensing the game engine under a Free license after a while..
Scheduled sick day?
"Going to the dentist for an extraction, pain pills mean I can't safely drive"
"Having surgery, will be out from 12/1 to 12/14
I've usually seen "scheduled sick days" when you have two separate leave time pools, one for sick and one for vacation instead of a single PTO pool.
Think I still have the 2.88-compatible drive from my real IBM 286 (don't recall ever seeing a 2.88 disk other than the DOS disk it shipped with)
All of which is usually bundled into the rent (mortgage, taxes, insurance(s), HOA fees, etc). If it isn't, then the landlord (little old lady or corporate behemoth, doesn't matter) isn't even breaking even... or won't be as soon as something breaks. Figure $2-4k per year for "future big things" that are cyclic, like a roof every 20 years or so or a new AC unit every 10-15 years as well as wear-n-tear things like carpeting and repainting, etc between renters (unless you end up with a long term renter in which case it may not matter as much) and just normal annual or even monthly maintenance (changing AC filters, mowing lawn, etc - stuff I did as a renter but have seen included in some people's leases as a owner-responsibility)
PAs are almost doctors... ARNPs or Nurse Practitioners are nurses who went to the Medical School of Real Experience and then got some paper to prove it all.
And yes, they (and similar degrees/certifications) both have quite a role to fill in health care world
Yup. Which is why some agencies are able to collect cell tracking data, etc. without a warrant - they simply ask AT&T or whoever for it, and they may just be given it with no question.
And where I am the big risk from leaving the garage door open for a few hours, or even over night or for a 2 or 3 day stretch is wrens setting up nests in there, or wandering animals getting in (have removed armadillos, possums, cats, several species of snakes and I'm sure ignored or never saw various birds, bats, bees, etc and so on)
Say "twenty-three-skiddoo" to logout.
