That is, or was, the case with The Blue Man Group. They were a big act in Vegas a couple of decades ago, not sure if they still exist. Various band members came and went; it didn't matter because they were all just bald musicians painted blue, and since their names were never given they could easily be replaced once they become uppity and demanded a decent pay for their work.

Who pays for this? Is there any thought given to figuring out how to bill the car owner for the electricity consumed?

How efficient is this? Any inductive pickup in the car is at least, say, 10 inches away from the road surface. How much energy will really be transferred?

Who pays for maintenance? Just like the stupid solar roadway ideas, this is far more expensive to maintain and restore after inevitable road construction than simple concrete or macadam roadways.

This is a stupid idea all around.

Back in the day I reverse engineered the Zork .com file, mostly just because I couldn't figure out the last few moves of the game, They did some simple compression of the text responses, as I recall, so that you couldn't just open the file with a hex editor and retrieve all of the strings. I wasted far too many valuable hours on that endeavor.

I do as well, but for people like contractors, plumbers, etc., that might be getting calls from potential customers, they can't really afford to do that.

The Mt. Wilson occasionally gives engineering tours of the two telescopes, the 60" and the 100". I was lucky enough to do so about a year ago. The mechanics and precision that went into them is amazing considering they were built some 100+ years ago and, as previously mentioned, the parts were hauled to the mountaintop by mules (and later by one of the first ever Mack trucks). Sighting the telescopes was done by multi-fold periscopes from which one could read a precision dial located on the telescope mount down in the basement, and yes, the observer sitting at his cold station had to constantly tweak the position of the film holders to keep them aligned with a guide star. Electricity was provided not by city power, but by a huge lead-acid battery bank that was charged during daylight hours by a generator powered by a recently restored two-cylinder engine. They couldn't run the engine at night since the vibration would affect the telescopes located hundreds of yards away. I highly recommend the tour. Do it while you can, the docents aren't getting any younger.

That list is pretty much useless if you can't even sort it by geographical region. However, loading a Yelp page for one of the flagged businesses does show a popup warning of suspicious activity when you scroll down to the reviews. Search on Yelp for Dave's Hot Chicken in Northridge, CA, for example.

I work for a small software company. Between myself and our other developers we don't do web site stuff, but just keeping up with changes, bug fixes, security fixes, etc., in the various SDKs and APIs we use from other vendors is a full time job by itself for several people. Try creating a web site with a lot of traffic and then don't touch the code for a month or so. See how long it lasts.

Comment I think that's to be expected. (Score 4, Insightful) 119

A new piece of software comes with lots of media hype, many people download and install it just to see what the hype is about, and then many of those people decide it just wasn't for them and they drop it. I would have been surprised if this wasn't the case in this instance.
