Ehh, maybe. If you're referring to Treasure Planet and Atlantis, those movies were just not terribly good and had some other problems (poor promotion campaigns and poorly-chosen launch windows). Which, again, might have been avoidable, or might have been symptomatic of Disney slowly killing their own legacy 2D projects. Though if you look at the production budgets for both movies, they were pretty beefy with all the expensive computer effects that were included (Futurama had similar problems during it's initial run on TV).
However, Pixar more than made up for it. Disney raked in huge amounts of money from that acquisition. They also profited handsomely from their in-house 3D studio.
