Basically, Obama and the advisers he picked decided that the only way to pass a health care bill was to give the Republicans and the corporations everything they wanted. They struck a deal with the insurance companies, the drug companies, the hospitals, the doctors' organizations, etc. to give them everything they wanted

The only problem wit this line of reasoning is that the Democrats had a majority in both the House and the Senate when the ACA was passed, it is 100% theirs, they pushed it through over the objections of many Republicans. They did not need to placate the Republicans to get their cooperation, and both parties are in bed with the corporations. Sorry, this lemon is 100% on Obama and the Democrats. Not to say the Republicans would have done any different or better, just that they were not an issue in this case.

I live moderately close to the city, but still it is over a mile to the nearest bus stop from my house, and around a mile from the bus stop to my place of work. So, walk 4 miles a day in horrible heat and regular rain storms during the summer, or drive which will likely take 1/3 the time or less. Hmm, such a hard choice. For inner city dwellers, public transport might make sense, but for the other 20% of people, it is a horrible choice.

As a Slashdotter since before logins and registrations, this is simply pathetic.

As Dan Luu writes:"I’m amazed at how quickly it’s possible to destroy user trust, and how much easier it is to destroy a brand than to create one."

Indeed.

AFAIK, all the climate projections could be wrong and we could be heading for another ice age that is only being delayed by our production of green house gases. There is really no good way to be 100% sure of the projections either way. That being said, we need to reduce how much we rely on non-renewable resources, and quit pumping garbage into the atmosphere, it stinks and it makes breathing difficult. In my view, the extremists on both sides of the issue are just as stupid. It's kind of like politics, the extremes are where the morons go, the moderates are where smart people go.

And there were amendments made to the Constitution to eliminate slavery and give women the right to vote. Amendments are how the Constitution is a "Living" document. Just ignoring the parts you don't agree with is not how it is done. The right to bear arms was put in place to make sure the people never fell under the boot of the government, which means it was intended for us to have arms capable of standing up for our rights. You may be naive enough to trust the government, that does not mean others are.
