Comment Re:So instead of buying a $8000 Chinese EV (Score 1) 282

I wasn't saying $27M isn't that much, but claiming that $27M is what's driving up prices is innumerate.

If you can run a publicly traded company for less, then you should and show us how it's done. My guess is you won't be able to get capable and well connected people in leadership positions, and your company wouldn't make it.

Yes, it's a good thing, but at what cost? What else was given up? E.g. did this increase expenses, which makes smaller companies less viable, decreases employment, and causes more homelessness? California has the highest level of unemployment in the country and the highest levels of homelessness, and there are reasons for that; that's what's being criticized.

I've been buying Google Pixel phones for this reason; they get the new versions (without a lot of crapware) first, and they have a promised updatable lifetime; the 4s and 5s got 3 years of Android updates, the 6s and 7s 5 years, and the 8s are getting 7 years of updates.

Personally, I was happy with 3 years...

On the flip-side, Google's last AI release debacle made me lose a lot of confidence in the company; they want to control how and what people think instead of giving their customers access to information, so I may be ready to try something else; I bought my kid a Fairphone.

Agreed, the Republicans spend way too much, just like the Democrats. Biden just approved a $1.2T budget for 6 months at a time when the debt is rising ~$1T/100 days.

Government giveaways, whether they're to corporations or "the poor and middle class", cause inflation, and inflation hurts the poor the most.

How can parasitic companies like Intuit compete with free?

Sounds like you've never used government software.

And the next thing you'll know the IRS will deduct taxes at source so many people won't even have to file a return.

Free is relative, the IRS is saying the software will cost them up to almost $250 Million just to operate; how many tens of millions did they take to study and create this alternative to the already freely available options?

What socialist madness is that?

The kind where money is wasted unproductively, the standard kind.
