Comment Seller here and we are ditching amazon (Score 2) 107

We've sold on Amazon for over 3 years now. We are in the process of shutting down that channel.

Our losses due to fraud simply make the channel not worth it.

* They buy products, pull parts out that they need, and return the rest. (ex: camera, steal battery, return camera)
* They buy our product, put some other similar but cheaper product in the box and return it.
* They use us as a warranty. Buy new one, return three year old one with different serial.

Our volume through our own warehouse and website is about 50% less. But without the fraud the profit is about the same.

We won't miss Amazon.

You want one monolithic monopolistic streaming service, and if they're not committed in producing and airing a show you don't want it at all?

I don't care if there are 10 services, as long as they all have the same access to the same content.

Let me make a simple analogy that you might understand. Imagine if radio or music streaming services were like today's movie services. Imagine if listening to Def Leppard required one service, but Bon Jovi required another, and Van Halen required yet another.

Why would slashdot post these rightwing extremist, dog whistle, transphobic, racist articles. They are part of the white cis patriarchy.

A personal tracking device that can be turned on or off by a remote entity at their convenience, running any app of their choosing (including updates to add/change/delete those apps). What could possibly go wrong?

Almost every car made in the past 3-4 years has all of the these same abilities. Your Ford, GM, Toyota, Lexus, Tesla, etc. can be started, from an app. That app doesn't talk to your car. It talks to a server at Ford. That server sends the instructions, updates, etc. to you your car/truck. That means F/G/T/L/T/etc. can start, update, or unlock your car anytime they want by writing some code on their end (if they don't already have it).

Now... apply that to tons of other devices. Cameras, TVs, routers, etc. This is not a new idea. They are just using it in a new and novel way.

It is hard to feel compassion with companies stupid enough to make themselves dependent on one supplier of one commercial software. Happens time and again, and it is stupid every time, because the outcome is so obvious.

Have you managed a data center before? Having multiple vendors for every platform, service, or device is not reasonable and would add tremendous costs and labor overheads.
