Automated pharmacies at large scale have been a thing since the 80s. I have an unusually high amount of exposure to this field and what they show in this article is no different than what others have been doing for decades. Theyâ(TM)re finally getting with the times. It just makes more economic sense to central fill and ship to your stores next day than to pay 2-3 pharmacists in each store to do a fraction of the work. Plus all the technicians.

retail has terrible margins in their pharmacy because of their overhead. the only thing that keeps the doors open at CVS/Walgreens is the people who come in to pick up their trifecta (metformin, lisinopril and atorvastatin) also stock up on soda, chips and candy. killing your foot traffic is a recipe for going out of business.

but what do i know?

Comment BS EE from University of California Santa Barbara (Score 1) 96

Exceptional school. Very difficult, but doable. Teachers always challenged you to think. Much of the coursework hasn't led itself to be of much practical value, but what they did teach is how to figure stuff out on your own. To this day 95% of the coworkers i've encountered, many of whom are quite bright, lack the ability to just figure stuff out. They can memorize a process or set of facts but really trying to figure things out on their own without a precise set of instructions stumps them.

If you want to really understand how flavorless meat is, cook it sous vide. Nearly all the flavor from meat comes from browning and seasoning. A well done steak will have more flavor than a perfect medium rare steak with a quick sear. Sorry but it sucks for everything but boneless skinless chicken breast.

This has been my proposed simple solution to pharmacutical costs for a long time. It's simple and transparent - 1 price for everyone. If its too expensive for everyone the price will come down. Yes some in less wealthy countries will lose treatment options, but far more people will benefit in the end, which is the socialist mindset anyways.

seems like i never have the mod points when i really need them. i end up wasting them up modding trolls instead. however this is a fundamental issue with the design of the ACA and is exactly the reason why insurance companies are actually discouraged from negotiating with doctors, hospitals, and drug companies. it's as simple as the higher the cost, the higher the profit they can collect. and when everyone is mandated to pay, well duh this is what happens.

Comment Theft (Score 1, Insightful) 747

This is theft. You took money from someone else, and now don't want to pay it back. Just remember there is someone on the other side that is not being returned the money taken from them. And yes there is a problem with the system. Democrats decided it was free money for all who wanted it with no regard to whether they deserved it or whether they were going to be able to repay it. When i was in college things weren't as lenient as they were over the last 10 years, but even then all the silly kids treated their extra student loan money as free party money. Infuriating as someone who worked throughout college, took loans, made wise financial decisions to pay them off ahead of schedule all without a break. Something tells me i'm about to be on the hook to pay off their loans now too.
