Comment Crazy instinct or clearing a Kestle cloud maker? (Score 1) 98

At first it seems wasteful to orbit tons of usable hardware put into orbit at great cost. Give it to me if you are done with it; seems a frugal circular economy response. But think of the downside. The more junk in orbit there is the likelier it becomes that collisions will cause a chain reaction of collisions: a Kestle cloud of high velocity debris depriving us of LEO for aeons, and making future passage through this high velocity shrapnel field that once was once pristine empty space problematic. So get this big high cross section piece of junk out of the way before some errant remnant of an anti- satellite hits it and turns it into more pieces of the Cloud. But maybe I could have a few modules?

Comment So totally dependent on electricity for HVAC ? (Score 1) 136

Beyond the psychological value of views and lighting, Windows exchange fresh air. California electricity can be cut off. So is there sufficient backup for the Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning systems? And will students be given battery lighting systems? Will these sleeping rooms be habitable during power failures without the reliable option of opening a window or having daytime natural lighting?

Comment Economical CO2 drawdown. Eat grass fed beef! (Score 1) 214

Cattle raised on grass growing on thick layers of soil sequestering carbon provide an economic incentive to draw down gigatons of atmospheric CO2. Feed-lot raised beef relies on diesel and factory farm soil-destroying mono-cropped soy beans and corn. Does not.

Comment Is it a side effect of microwave eavesdropping? (Score 2) 106

Remote microwave return signals have been used previously ( albeit with planted devices as transponders ) to listen in to conversations. How could microwaves be used to remotely listen to conversations? Similar to using lasers to remotely detect conversations from the vibrations in window glass.
