Comment Too expensive to try stay in lockdown... (Score 1) 300

...you'd need the whole planet to stay put for a couple of weeks... not going to happen. We need to learn to live with the virus until a vaccine is created (if ever). Thinking that clearing the virus out of your corner of the woods is game over is just silly. Lockdowns are not financially sustainable every time there's a re-incursion, and there will be reinfections.

We should have wised up at week two of the lockdown.

SpaceX knows that of course which is why they have a steady stream of StarShip prototypes running along the conveyor, each one more capable and smarter.

Bad strains kill their host and terminate there; if no re-infections then that strain stops dead in it's tracks.
Mild strains don't kill their host, indeed the milder the symptoms the more prevalent that strain will go on to live long and if mild enough prosper.

Possibly the strain variants are close enough so that the mild strains infer immunity against the bad strains.

Obviously people on the edge of life may be affected as usual as it doesn't take much to be the straw that breaks the proverbial's back; these people, as usual, need to be protected.

The first two weeks of lockdown were fine for us in NZ; we didn't know what we were facing. Once it was pretty clear what the target of the virus was we should have refocused our efforts on hospitals, old-peoples-homes & the sick. Everyone else should have been sent back to work.

As the available work pool reduces (or increases) the "standard" week hours variable should be adjusted to suit. This variable could be adjusted after every census.

Same thing goes for retirement age... in fact retirement age should get this applied first as in the developed world we generally live beyond 70 years. It was originally designed to ease the average last 4-5 years of life.

Setting hard and fast constants against the human condition was just bas programming practice.
