Everybody wants to make the one app that everybody use.

One of the problems is that it becomes a single point of cancel. When your de-facto only payment option is via $APP, and $APP decides to cancel you for something you said on Instatwit and they disagree with, you are effectively pushed out of the society.

A private company should not have government authority. Read "The Circle" for inspiration.

Musk has talked about using Twitter to create "X, the everything app.

Read "The Circle" and, if you liked that, "The Every". While not very good books, they demonstrate how good an idea this isn't.

How did Apple know that a specific phone may have been infected? Why do they know what they know in order to determine this?

Did they contact the owner just because he was a politician? In that case, how did they know? Or do they contact all device owners that they detect this for? That would be nice for the owners but kind of make the spyware unusable.
