Energy independence is, short and medium term, something for large, sparsely populated countries, not smallish, very densely populated countries. Germany isn't exactly Singapore, but its gas reserves are somewhat limited.

He didn't "warn". All he did is publicly chastise the chancellor of Germany for buying Russian gas, which is about as counterproductive as you can get ... and misses the chance to sell Germany US gas instead. The fact that the occasional nugget of wisdom his handlers fed him actually sunk in does not detract from the fact that the man is a massive dolt.

It's the only metric which should matter, agreed. But is it the only metric which does matter? And if it isn't, who is making sure that it is? The same people who aren't ensuring it now? I think you misunderstand what departments like this are for. They are there there to make sure the company doesn't succumb to racists, sexist, ageist, and other discriminatory hiring practices, but instead does indeed end up with the best people, whoever they may be.

Right now there have been about 775'000 CoViD deaths in the US, out of a population of about 329 million, over a span of about 22 months. How bad would a disease have to be before society would, in your opinion, have the right to protect itself against its recalcitrant members?

The US doesn't see it quite that way. On the one side, international law isn't really a thing for the US, on the other, their immigration system actually is so bad that it's hard to comprehend from, for example, a European perspective.
