Firefox has been a real dog for a long time. Sluggish rendering, big memory footprint and lately strange design decisions and release cycles.

The *only* thing that has kept me using it is the NoScript addon. The rest, Chrome does much better.

So, how'd you go around playing something like Quake - or even World of Warcraft without being able to use the mouse for free-look/turning?
Seems like a cool little gadget for quick remote login - but I'm quite sure the pricetag will make it rather useless for that purpose just as the lack of mouse (together with small screen) will make it useless for "real" gaming.

EVE is a slow moving game and there's a point in not letting everyone fly everything from the start.

But to answer to your main point - it's /perfectly legal/ to purchase a character with 30M SP from the EVE forums (check the Character Bazaar part), if you don't feel like starting from scratch - you're allowed to buy a character.

Hmm, maybe trade-alt is the way to go, then - my Empire standings don't really allow me to do any high-sec missioning (nor would I want to). Losing a Golem to CONCORD or militia NPCs would suck and skilling an alt to fly it is just...not that effective ;-)

Otherwise you might want to look into Message Oriented Middleware, things like MQ Series or in worst case scenario, even Microsoft MQ. There are plenty of options.
This would allow you to put policies on the messages, handle routing (in case you need to deliver to different recipients), guarantee delivery at least once, do type conversions/transformations etc.

I'm just tired of all these "global" announcements that really affect a tiny fraction of global users. Also very tired of all the arcane old licensing deals...

The Premier League offering in my country is very crappy and very limited - and the commentators are even crappier, the packaging sucks and it's really freaking expensive channel to get for the value you're getting - just for once, it would be so cool to be able to get the freedom to choose whatever value proposition you like, instead of being force fed by all these middlemen..

But yeah, like you said, there's too much money involved, so there's probably very little hope of it ever working like that .. and in the meanwhile I'll be watching the games at the local pub that "pirates" it off Sky (i.e. they have a subscription through proxy in UK). That's not very "global" to me - what about the millions of Xbox users outside UK who'd also want to pay and see Premier League and other stuff on their Xbox? And yeah, that was rhetorical question, I know we're hosed until the "global" train arrives on our little local station.

Masters/Ph.D is about seeing just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I never really enjoyed academia when I was younger so I went for work experience and I have never regretted it.
Having said that - now on my older days - I'm finding myself strangely fascinated by the idea of exploring the "deep ends" of my field in academic environment.
Once you get into "working life" you'll find out that there's really not that many opportunities to research on the same level as there is in academia. I've been toying with the idea of "going back", however that will have to wait until the children are a bit older (other priorities at the moment).
