The Sun Unleashes Coronal Mass Ejection At Earth 220

astroengine writes "Yesterday morning, at 08:55 UT, NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory detected a C3-class flare erupt inside a sunspot cluster. 100,000 kilometers away, deep within the solar atmosphere (the corona), an extended magnetic field filled with cool plasma forming a dark ribbon across the face of the sun (a feature known as a 'filament') erupted at the exact same time. It seems very likely that both eruptions were connected after a powerful shock wave produced by the flare destabilized the filament, causing the eruption. A second solar observatory, the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, then spotted a huge coronal mass ejection blast into space, straight in the direction of Earth. Solar physicists have calculated that this magnetic bubble filled with energetic particles should hit Earth on August 3, so look out for some intense aurorae — a solar storm is coming."

If they own the copyright they can choose not to license it under the GPL to the public. They can then choose to delete the
entire source tree. I'm not too sure if they can't also compile the source files into binaries but assuming they can, where the
buck stops is linking with GPL licensed code that is not explicitly covered by the LGPL. Right. No linking allowed. Whatever
they do, if the executable contains GPL licensed code they can not run it. Even debugging the program and even if they
step only through non-GPL code, it's not permissible. To the IANAL who said the GPL kicks in when you distribute it, that
is not true. You shall have no use of GPL code even for internal in-house purposes unless you fulfill all stipulations in the GPL.
For example when you modify GPL code (a single character in a source file is enough) and even if you just use that in-house
you are required to publish the modification or the license grant by the copyright holder is null and void.

In short they can either try and replace whatever GPL code there is if that's at all feasible or they can choose to scrap it
entirely. If the portion of code that is _possibly_ owned by the university is useful or can be easily made useful by itself
then they are free to do that as well and choose to do with that what they will.

He's an airport cop, she's a TSA worker at the same airport. On the weekends these two love to booze it up
and ... watch the video!!

The short of it, they go into a gas station convenience store, she grabs two pieces of pizza and they try to leave the
store. The store clerk comes after the two demanding payment for the pizza, she takes out her TSA id card
and says she's with "Homeland Security". The store clerk not impressed by the two follows them out to the
pumps and tries to get their license plate. She opens the tailgate thus flipping the license plate up so the clerk can't
see it. Some back and forth. At one point then the clerk gets the tailgate but then the cop runs after him and
punches him in the face.

It turns out though, "Homeland Sekurity" used her credit card to pay for an item in the store, the shenanigans
outside the store trying to cover up the sign were completely unnecessary.

Game Industry Vets On DRM 372

An anonymous reader points out an article at SavyGamer in which several game industry veterans were polled for their opinions on DRM. Cliff Harris of Positech Games said he didn't think his decision to stop using DRM significantly affected piracy of his games, accepting it as an unavoidable fact. "Maybe a few of the more honest people now buy the game rather than pirate it, but this sort of thing is impossible to measure. You can see how many people are cracking and uploading your game, but tracking downloads is harder. It seems any game, even if it's $0.99 has a five hour demo and is DRM-free and done by a nobel-peace prize winning game design legend, will be cracked and distributed on day one by some self righteous teenager anyway. People who crack and upload games don't give a damn what you've done to placate gamers, they crack it anyway." Nihal de Silva of Direct2Drive UK said his company hasn't noticed any sales patterns indicating customers are avoiding games with DRM. Richard Wilson of TIGA feels that customers should be adequately warned before buying a game that uses DRM, but makes no bones about the opinion that the resale of used games is not something publishers should worry about.
