Journal Journal: Weekend recap

The weekends need to be longer. I propose the addition of another day to the weekend to alleviate this problem. Any suggestions for a name? I really don't give a shit if god made the world in 7 fucking days, i want my extra day for the weekend. That way, ppl won't bitch about a 4-day work week, and I can have my 3 day weekend every weekend, instead of just holidays.

Uva was fun. Me an pierce got to hang with dan. I saw return of the jedi again. Yay for nostalgia. We also went to patricia's place to hang with her and for some more movie nostalgia. Geez, i really could have used that extra day.

I haven't seen any of my friends for a long time(only my plush Tux is around to keep me company), and it was good to see some of them in person again. The only good news is that it's only 2 weeks before thanksgiving break, which means people will be home for that week(though i think i'll be working for most of it), and after thanksgiving it's only 3 weeks or so before the semester ends and everyone's home for winter. Then the weekends will be somewhat intersting.

Anyways, as for linux news(which is why i chose that icon for today), I've been reading Programming Linux Games by the people at Loki Software. 'Tis a fine book, and hopefully I'll be able to play with some of the stuff they talk about(most notably SDL and OpenAL. Horray for books.

It was cold on the way walking to work this morning from the metro. It better stay cold. I'm so sick of this fucking alternating hot and cold weather. Stay cold! I want snow!

Linux

Journal Journal: Yay!

I got my ssh server working. I can now play around with my computer at home from work. Still a few kinks to work out though. First off, i need to find away for my apache and my own account to have write access for my fat partition and then i need to see if i can secretly install a ssh telnet client on the computer i'm working on(though my boss hinted that he might buy a machine for me to use!)

I installed a xine from home today. Groovy!

Journal Journal: Day after Halloween

No, I didn't do anything. No kids came by to get any candy either.

I'm going to head to Uva tomorrow. That'll be a good change of pace from a normal weekend at home.

Music

Journal Journal: We got ya covered

What's with all the covers songs this year, some of them aren't bad, and some are actually pretty good, but why so many all of a sudden, here's the list so far:

Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal(Michael Jackson)
Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons(Nina)
Stone Temple Pilots - Revolution(The Beatles)
Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love(Soft Cell)

AAF is ok, but the fact it's a cover drives the song down to mediocre.
I really like the goldfinger song, esp since the original song is so horridly bad.
STP song bites.
Manson song is pretty good.

Hopefully though, some new original music should pop up.

Games

Journal Journal: Fucking weather.

I think lewis black said it best: FUCK FALL!.

Today it's mild, yesterday it was blistering cold. Make up your god damn mind!! Is it going to be hot, or is it going to be cold? Pick one and stick with it!

Here's another alignment quiz i found. This one was a little more fun and not as annoying as the last one. Enjoy. I got netrual good again.

Programming

Journal Journal: GLing

yay. my skills in openGL have improved. I can now make a box turn a different color when i click on it. yay! I can also display text!!(well in linux at least, i haven't figured out how to do it in a win32 console app). Hopefully i'll be able to do more neat things during this week.

Linux

Journal Journal: Can't wait.....

to get home. I got a whole shitload of linux stuff to do this weekend.

I will also be going to try to get to UVA next weekend. It's been awhile since I've had contact with the college world.

Anime

Journal Journal: girls....

No, this isn't about anime, it's just the only topic icon that seems to fit.

My dad really pissed me off today. He decided that he was going to pester me about the "girlfriend" topic again. Usually when he bothers me about it, he just asks simple stupid questions, like "why don't you have a girlfriend?", or "don't you have any friends that are girls?". Lately he's been suggesting that there might be something wrong with me psychologically(or at best i'm just not a "normal" person) because he can't seem to understand why I haven't don't have a girlfriend yet. Worse still, he claims that I'll grow up to be some sort of mysoginist hermit if i don't "mend my ways," as he put it.

What the fuck is his problem? He always seems to assume that, a) i don't want a girlfriend, and b) that there's something wrong with me because i don't have a girlfriend.

Am I happy about the fact that I don't have a girlfriend. No, of course not. I used to let it bother me a lot(partly due because of my parent's incessant nagging on the subject), but now i'm not going to fucking whine like a little baby(yes, i've been guilty in the past about that) about it.

As for normalcy, I just haven't met the right person yet, so i fail to see how that's not normal. Just let me live my fucking life please.

Sorry if you don't care about this, but I just needed to vent.

Security

Journal Journal: Depressing...

My boss keeps talking about disaster recovery methods in case the building blew up...

God, that's depressing.

Education

Journal Journal: Edumacation

Here's the tenative schedule for next semester:

11370 CS   3204  Operating Systems        0800-0915  TR
11373 CS   3304  Comp. Languages          1115-1205  MWF
12478 GEOL 1014  Hist. Geology            1220-1315  MWF

13950 PHIL 1204  Knowledge and Reality    0930-1045  TR

If they can give this schedule without making any stupid changes, then i'll be a very happy person.  I'd rather not have os at 8:00am, but I have no choice in the matter.
Linux

Journal Journal: The "Switch" 1

Mmm... i just installed rh 7.2
I finally got around to installing a lot of stuff in linux that i've been meaning to do for awhile. I might be able to make the complete switch sometime soon. Here's the checklist on stuff that i still need to do:

Find/wait for a decent linux opennap client.
Find out how to get the latest kernel(2.4.12 as of this writing) to work correctly.
Set up apache/php so my web server can run under linux.
Wait for Neverwinter Nights to come out.
Play around with OpenGL.

Oh and my web server went into trouble a few days ago. Unbenowst to me, my ICS router decided for some reason to reassign me to another local ip address, disrupting the firewall rules i had set up. Why can't the router just give me an address and stick with it?

Journal Journal: Is Left-Libretarian contradictory?

I've decided to re-evaluate how libretarian am i, since i have been having some doubts. Anyways i just took the issue stances and saw how much i agreed or disagree with.
Political Corruption: Agree completely.
Crime: Agree completely.
Drugs:Wholeheartadly agree.
Economy and Unemployment: Agree mostly, though i don't share the belief that min. wage causes unemployment.
Education: I'd rather keep public education, abliet with much less government interference, and would rather just make K-12 education non-mandatory.
Environment: This one surprised me, not because the government is the worst polluter, but rather that the LP seems to imply support for environmental laws. Quite different from cato.org and mises.org objectivist attitude of "anyone who cares about the environment is an irrational idiot".
Foreign Policy: Makes sense.
Freedom of speech: If you know me you know my stance on it.
Gun Laws: I more or less have the same philosophy as Redpath. Unsure if this is inline with LP's stance.
Health Care: Agree - Fuck you bill clinton.
Immigration: Agree. Just kill the welfare welcome wagon and everything will be alright.
National Defense: Agree.
Welfare: Agree.
Social Security: Social security bad.
Taxes: I guess libretarian's official stance is "cut all taxes", but i think unofficially most of them have realized that it's not very realistic to do so, at least not right away.
Free Trade: This one is mixed. I'm pretty resistance to the idea of "unrestricted capitalism". I agree that massive government interference causes more harm than good, but at the same time, i feel that all types of power should be held in check, whether it be from a government or a corporation.

I guess i agree with enough to be considered a libretarian, albiet with some leftist leanings. So, what's your opinion, is the term Left-Libretarian contradictory, and am I just spewing oxymoronic ideas?

News

Journal Journal: Business as Usual...

I was on the metro today and someone flashed the Washington Post at me, and I saw an article title that finally got me to realize that america is back to caring about useless bullshit. The title read: "Jordan's Foot Hurts". I've got one for the brilliant people at the Post: "Miguel is very fucking bored".

Does this bother anyone?
