If you defund the libraries, then you don't have any problems with fines, or books either.
They could fix it easy by connecting to other state grids (like every other civilized state) but then they'd have to fix their crap grid and, as we've already established, nobody wants to pay for it.
Just another example of how libertarianism fails.
Many years ago, I was a member of an international research group.
We were having dinner at the head of the group's house just outside of Paris and got into a discussion on holidays. It turned out that he was going on holiday in the summer, taking some weeks out camping in the South of France with his family.
One of the other members of the group, an American, was aghast, How could he take so much time off and not only that but stay in a tent.
China won't accomplish that literally ever.
Because the Chinese are inferior as a people, right?
I was at a lecture on the glaciers in the Himalayas and Karakoram recently.
They are getting their data from declassified satellite images, with horizontal resolutions down to 50cm or so.
One has to wonder if one can get information as good as this from satellites, then what additional information, if any, can you get from balloons?
I know the form factor imposes some restrictions, but I find these a tad ordinary
As a contrast, try some of these designs for a wider range of gadgets.
It's easy to call them racists, but you can make an argument that they were voting out of self-interest.
It is true that not all Brexiteers are racists, but all racists voted for Brexit.
Large numbers of Eastern European EU citizens migrated to the UK seeking both employment and a strong social safety net (including free healthcare).
Because, of course, there was no equivalent of the National Health Service in the countries where these people came from. As has been noted elsewhere, the free movement of people within the EU has been largely been replaced by immigration from the Indian subcontinent. A triumph of unintended consequences.
The situation for poorer working class Brits was a little different, who experienced wage stagnation and ever-increasing rents at the low end of the market.
The working class had been experiencing wage stagnation, poor education, housing and environment for decades before the referendum. It can be laid at the feet of Thatcher, who gutted the job market and social housing.
There have been numerous articles in the news about the prospect of a far-right government in Italy. What nobody seems to have commented on is the similarities between this and the current UK government.
What are the EU commies going to use then?
Commie: Somebody whose views or actions I do not approve of.
The person claiming somebody or something is "commie" will almost certainly never have read anything by Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trotsky...
According to TFA, the wind farm produces power for $0.06/kwh, which is not too bad, but then compares it to gas generation at $0.52/kwh, which is nonsense.
The problem in the UK is that the price of gas impacts the cost of electricity, this article has a good explanation.
I live in Scotland, where up to 97% of domestic electricity is generated from renewables, the local dam provides sufficient hydroelectricity for the whole town. But we are still paying for electricity generated from non-renewable sources.

That was pretty much the reaction to the LASER as well. We found a couple of uses for those in the following 80 years.
When I was doing my doctorate, I had the good fortune to meet Charles Townes. According to him, he was told the maser was a fantastic piece of physics, but that it would never have any use.
In line with the British Government's intention to bring back imperial units, they will also be introducing a new imperial connector for phones, tablets etc.
These will be introduced at the same time as new 0.005 sq in cables (to replace 2.5mm sq cables), and plugs that used British Standard Fine screws.
When are they going to give the part to an alien?
Life is a healthy respect for mother nature laced with greed.
