Comment Re:No, they don't work (Score 1) 670

Let me try to explain it to you in a way you'll understand. There are some of us who suffer from chronic pain and fatigue. It's not a matter of willpower, it's a matter of reserving what little energy we have in a day just to go to work, or run errands, or any of the other things that have to get done. Since you're a fitness buff, you know "The Wall?" You're exercising, things are ok and then... The Wall. That moment where you feel like you can't push yourself one step farther? Sometimes you can, and sometimes you can't. Guess what. I live at The Wall. As soon as I open my eyes in the morning, I have to climb over The Wall just to go take a shower. I'm in pain every minute of the day. Now tell me that it's a question of willpower. I have more willpower than you will ever understand, but it doesn't help me lose any weight. Stop assuming that everyone who is overweight is at fault. Not everyone is. I'm not whining. I'm not being less than honest with myself. If there's one thing I know, it's my limitations. If I were to push myself hard enough to get a reasonable amount of exercise, I'd be sick for days. You just can't understand being at negative energy reserves at all times, obviously.

I can see it. When every single new version of IE breaks all of our web applications (notably not developed by us, all third party), I often wish we could go back to XP also. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I tell our computers not to install updates automatically, and not to update IE automatically, somehow we always get the latest and "greatest" version of IE installed on a bunch of machines. I kind of like our few remaining XP machines, because they can't get anything higher than IE8 which works just fine.

I have pretty bad tinnitus, and even though all I hear is the ringing I usually like very quiet rooms. I keep thinking that if I could get some long term, serious auditory deprivation that the tinnitus would stop. It seems to me like the stimulation of ambient sounds makes it worse for me. If I ever get to go to this chamber, there's a very good chance I'll just fall asleep from relief and be in there for hours.

I'd never say "Doctors don't know anything," but every time I go to the doctor for just about anything they take a bunch of my blood, or take an xray, and then throw up their hands and give me a useless anti-inflamatory. Doctors don't know everything either, guys. I'm not going to be a person who won't vaccinate my kids (if I ever have any), but it's not wrong to question your doctor either.

It's not YOUR problem to try to stop them from making personal calls instead of work-oriented ones.

This is pretty much how I approach it also. I don't really care if people are surfing at work, but we do crack down on streaming because we still have to pay for our bandwidth. So long as your "personal activities" aren't endangering or slowing our network, I really don't care.
