It's not "act of God" vs. man-made, but more like evitable vs. inevitable.

In this case, dismissing the technological aspects and blaming it on human error is intended to let the technology shine as inherently safe, so the japanese power companies can spin up their nuclear reactors again. Nothing to see here, move along please...

Luckily, this doesn't mean shit in Germany. You can't make people who want to buy something from a store surf to a website before purchase. For this to work, internet connections would have be a given right (they are not) or the retailers would have to put up internet booths were you can surf (or at least look at the EULA's) for free (there are none).

And even then, I doubt German courts would allow that. Effectively, this makes EULAs mostly null and void, as proven in this recent verdict. I'm pretty sure 90%+ of EULAs contain provisions to prohibit resale of software licenses.

Anyway, YAY for EU.

They used 12 modems and thus 12 seperate channels which means in reality, they only transmitted about 400mbit per "subscriber" (cable).

While this is nifty, Kabel Deutschland subscribers' bandwith is often shared, which means at peak time you don't even get 30 of the promised 100mbit. In addition to that, they slow you down after a 10gb quota/day. And in addition to that, they often throttle certain protocols, namely torrent.

This is one of the worst ISP in Germany who just made a totally useless world record.

I'm very open when it comes to other cultures. But in China I witnessed people spitting bones right on the table. I don't care for fancy clothes at restaurants, but for basic hygiene, which is basically lacking in most places and probably the reason I flew home with a hepatitis.

I don't care if people eat animals I wouldn't eat, but I can't stand unnecessary suffering. At a food market I witnessed a chicken being plucked alive BEFORE being killed, which is just cruel. I saw a fishtank at a restaurant where the fish couldn't even move because they were literally stacked inside with just enough water to cover them, and the fishtank was literally full of shit. I saw a lady get hit by a guy on a scooter who just drove on and nobody in the vicinity even gave a fuck as she was lying there.

There are some more examples, but all that happened in my first 4 weeks in Shanghai and stuff like that wouldn't happen here in Europe. I'm not saying that we're better - I don't judge other cultures - I'm just saying that for ME (and most of my co-workers), stuff like that is simply too much to bear.
