Dark Crystal looked dumb, I started Locke and Key and lost interest. Witcher didn't appeal to me. The last season of Stranger Things was phoned in. It was really unoriginal and unexciting and left me wanting for something more. Hopefully the next season will be better, but we may have a year to wait on that. The Umbrella Academy looked possibly interesting, but not enough to keep me subscribing.

From what I could tell before I canceled last month, I'm not sure what they are spending all this money to accomplish. The quality of the shows has dropped so much that I end up laughing at how bad the dialog or plots are and stop watching. I spent a good week trying to find stuff to watch before canceling and found a few comedy specials and that was about it. Most of the rest is just garbage that Lifetime passed on.

I was going to say the same thing. COVID had literally nothing to do with the failure of this service.

It was a totally stupid idea by people who have no concept of what younger people want and no idea what makes things popular. This was an exercise at throwing away money. Many, many people stated this when it was announced. The fact that they got $1.75B for an obviously stupid idea should cause everyone to reevaluate how they pick ideas to fund, since this was 100% hype and no actual hope of success. They believe their own lies, which must have been very compelling likely ending with "Profit!!"

They don't really have much of anything worth watching, so they want you to pay at least a month and before you realize it.

I had been a subscriber for 15+ years and just canceled. I should have canceled years ago, but was too lazy. I tried for a good month to find something to watch. A few comedy specials were interesting, but none of their recent original shows or movies are even halfway decent. Most are cringe-worthy attempts with poor writing, poor acting and what appears to be a plot that didn't get any edits. Sure Stranger Things was good, but the last season was meh. It's mostly garbage originals and series from other networks that were canceled, often ending on a cliffhanger. And with all that supposed content, finding anything was nearly impossible.

I have Prime, but I never use it. Finding anything there is harder than making your own shows.

China can exert pressure on US operations when its a chinese owner but if its an american based owner their power over the platform to use it to spy on people is lost.

I think that this is a no-win situation for China and ByteDance, so they have decided that is they are going to lose, then at the very least, they will not let an American company gain from their loss. Let Trump keep America... ByteDance will still get to slowly eat up the rest of the world with their algorithm - issues in India, notwithstanding. If they give up their secret sauce to a giant American corporation, then the last two years will have all been for nought.

China wants American companies to reveal all the algorithms they use, but won't let Chinese companies do the same. I say shut down the whole thing.

I think LED lamps are displacing fluorescents. LEDs are sturdier, last longer, and are more efficient. The biggest disadvantage is they can't tolerate high temperatures.

I don't think they last longer at all. My experience with the 25+ I have says otherwise. They are definitely more efficient, is is great. I like that you can dim them and they don't turn insanely red. The high temperature thing is a problem. I have a lot of recessed or enclosed lights. LEDs last about 2 years in recessed lights (and this is bulbs made for recessed lights.) I gave up on the enclosed lights and LEDs after seeing failures after a few months. I could replace the figures, but paying an electrician $100 to replace a single fixture will likely eat up any savings for little-used lights (e.g. bathrooms, closets, hallway, etc.)

The LED will probably run for ever, the electronics in them seem to last about the same length of time as an old incandescent bulb lasted.

Sadly, this is a completely accurate reflection of reality. I have some incandescent bulbs that are over 14 years old and still going strong. None of my LED bulbs have lasted more than 2 years.
