You don’t understand the purpose of this program. It’s ultimately intended to fund development of cleaner technologies after trickling through school systems and wherever else along the way.

If some dipshit school admin thinks he’s pulling one over on the system. Well in this case the system was designed knowing that people like him are in the mix.

Submission + - NASA to perform an orbital test of Boeing's CST-100 Starliner

mmell writes: Boeing's CST-100 Starliner Spacecraft is set to launch atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket on May 19 at 6:54pm EDT.

Orbital Flight Test 2 (OFT-2) is the second orbital flight for the Starliner program, and the first for the second crew module in the Starliner fleet. OFT-2 is a critical step for NASA certifications to fly astronauts to and from the International Space Station. The test flight will verify that Starliner can perform the missions which might typically be expected of it, including launch, docking, undocking and (obviously) safe return to Earth. NASA TV will stream the tests live, starting with the launch.

The schedule:
5/19, 6:00pm — Launch broadcast begins.
5/20, 3:30pm — Starliner docking with ISS.
5/21, 11:30am — Safety checks completed. Hatches opened.
5/24, 12:00pm — Starliner loading completed. Hatched closed.
5/25, 2:00pm — Starliner undocking from ISS.
5/25, 5:45pm — Coverage of Starliner landing begins.

Again, the streams will be broadcast at NASA Television. I don't know about any of you, but I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Submission + - Mitsubishi Electric getting into 3D printing in space (mitsubishielectric.com)

Dr. Crash writes: MadeInSpace, Redwire, and Bigelow, move over. There's yet another 3D printing in space group — and it's not a startup. Mitsubishi Electric just went public with a UV resin specially made to print in zero-G and in a hard vacuum — as in _outside_ the airlock. The polymer is tuned to harden with solar UV, so no UV lasers needed (saving power and launch weight). Their first goal? Printing cubesat parabolic dishes in orbit, so a 300mm cubesat could have what looks like a one-meter dish antenna — or anything else that can be freeform-printed. Their press release is here: https://www.mitsubishielectric...

Because the NT kernel really is a better than DOS in so many ways

I’m not aware of the nitty gritty details but I always thought the early NT kernel was considered a work of art by Dave Cutler and the rest of winNT was sort of a mediocre disgrace tacked on.

How was the NT kernel anything like DOS? I believe you but I think you’re glossing over some important and interesting details and without them I have a difficult time with this statement.

Submission + - SPAM: Netflix Will Soon Crack Down on Password Sharing

cirrusitsolution writes: Netflix has been talking about cracking down on password sharing for years. So far, it's been just talk. Recently, the company suffered its first decrease in subscribers in recent memory. They lost more than 200,000 in the first quarter of 2022. That is a fact which sent their stock price reeling.

Let me send you my browser history. I found lots of ways to find tattoo men and blonde twinks. Seems no matter what I type google thinks this is what I want to look at. The other day I spent a good half hour just staring at the screen looking for some clue why google would think this is what I was looking for. No leads so far, plan on doing another 30 minutes during my zoom call with management this afternoon.

Lol I know it was just an example. Google always gets a fresh session and a new IP address from me but that’s been the case for a long time. It seems like google is now prioritizing websites that sell you something over websites that tell you something.

This may be an accurate representation of how people use the web but its not particularly helpful to be presented with a bunch of links to various storefronts with no pricing. Really a task better suited to frooogle, which I used to use all the time and pretty much always beat Amazon pricing. Naturally that was neglected and is also not much use anymore. It was great when paired with google wallet for quick checkout, which was discontinued but apparently is going to be brought back.

Pretty much every google product peaked between 2007 and 2014. Meanwhile other search engines have gotten better.

I don’t think anything is as good as google search 2009ish. Like it used to amaze me when I typed stuff like “movie about a tattoo man and blonde kid crashing into the sun” (made up)
And it would find shit I didn’t know the name of like it could read my mind.

Now for some searches i already know it’s gonna be crap and give me nothing but ads and listings for tattoo sunscreen or blonde twinks.

It seriously makes me sad for humanity. Nobody will learn from our mistakes. Just getting the US to realize it’s military excursions backfire 9 time out of 10 is as frustrating as trying to house train a puppy. I used to wonder if the human race would colonize space, now I wonder if we’ll make it another generation without a dark age.

Then Russia and China both seem they want to be us at our worst. Fuck fuck fuck and I have to keep going into work fucking with vague Jira stories like everything is normal.
