No, the worst part is that OUR OWN LAWMAKERS are being restrained in what they can talk about.

This is a direct affront to the principle of congressional oversight.

In this case I agree. This is complete crap. A Congressman having to GET PERMISSION from the Executive Branch to inform those he represents that the 4th Amendment has been breached by the Executive Branch makes one wonder about what he wasn't allowed to say, and why the hell he had to get permission in the first place. However, there are somethings I believe that politicians, no matter the branch, should shut up about, such as information that gives away a source, or puts the lives of those who have helped us in jeopardy. But even that has to take a backseat to the Constitution.

Go ahead, mod me down.

Submission + - Up close with the Enterprise shuttle at the Intrepid Museum (geek.com)

An anonymous reader writes: As you probably remember from a few weeks ago, the Space Shuttle Enterprise was flown on the back of a 747 to New York City where it was then delivered to the USS Intrepid. As sad as it was to see a space shuttle retired (and NASA take a major step down in the space flight abilities) this was one of the most amazingly geektastic events in recent memory. Now the shuttle is on top of the aircraft carrier’s flight deck, living in its very own pavilion. As of tomorrow it will go on display as part of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, but today we got a sneak peek at the shuttle.

Submission + - Scaling Drupal Websites Beyond 10,000,000 Hits An Hour (drupalwatchdog.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Drupal's #1 contributor, Karoly "chx" Negyesi argues against scaling Drupal websites with Varnish and ESI, proposing a more modern stack built on Redis and nginx. His solution serves dynamic pages to anonymous and authenticated users directly out of RAM. He explains:

"There is one piece left: customizations for logged in users. On login, we generate one JSON and store it into Redis using the session_id as key. On subsequent requests, we take the value of the session cookie and try to read the value out of Redis—if it succeeds, we are logged in. And, being dissatisfied with a mere few millions requests an hour on a laptop, we can add the proxy_cache directive with a 10 second cache in front of webdis. In addition, we can add a proxy_cache directive in front of the entire configuration, and be able to serve well above 10,000 pages per second on modest hardware (assuming a high hit rate)."

Submission + - PSA: Dropbox Dropquest begins right now! (engadget.com)

TheGift73 writes: "Big Dropbox fan are you? Got plans for the weekend? Cancel 'em. Dropquest 2012 begins right now. If you're unfamiliar — it's the storage company's internet scavenger hunt that involves a series of puzzles, challenges and, erm, origami. If you complete the game, you'll get 1GB of extra space for free, but if you come in first place, you'll get 100GB free for your entire life, while 10 second-placers get 20GB for life and so on. You're not allowed to ask for help on the company's support forum (you'll get disqualified) and you're competing against at least half a million other fans of the service, but if that hasn't daunted you then head on down to the source link and get puzzling!"

Submission + - Pirate Bay ‘Censorship’ Judge is Corrupt, Claims Pirate Party Founde (torrentfreak.com) 1

TheGift73 writes: "This week yet another court order was handed down in Europe with the aim of censoring The Pirate Bay. The ruling forbids the Dutch Pirate Party from not only running a direct proxy, but also telling people how to circumvent an earlier court ordered blockade. However, according to Pirate Party founder Rick Falkvinge, the judge in the case has a history of corruption relating to another file-sharing case he presided over in the Netherlands.

The Court of The Hague in the Netherlands has been particularly busy this work with Pirate Bay-related cases."

Eventually, our species will need to start colonizing other planets. Now we just need a President to say "WE WILL DO THIS" and a Congress to fund it so we can get our asses in gear and do it. As a Conservative, I believe most of the Federal Government needs gutted, but Space Research and Defense are not things we should skimp on.

Submission + - DVDs, Blu-Rays To Show 20-Second Unskippable Warnings (arstechnica.com)

bonch writes: DVDs and Blu-Rays will begin displaying two unskippable anti-piracy screens, each 10 seconds long, shown back-to-back. Six studios have agreed to begin using the new notices. Of course, pirated versions won't contain these 20-second notices; however, an ICE spokesman says the intent isn't to deter piracy but to educate the public.
