If it's not commission then what is it? We all know payment processing is only a few percent so clearly the rest is commission. Sure, if you set up your own payment system you're getting less for that commission than if you stuck with Apple, but it's still commission. I don't understand how anyone can be surprised at this outcome; of course Apple was still going to charge a commission.

While I'm not really a fan of how Apple is handling this, the fact is the ruling doesn't say Apple isn't entitled to their commission. Only that alternate payment methods must be allowed.

Apple obviously needs to have some way to see when transactions are happening so that it can charge its commission. A week seems egregious but the general idea of tracking links and tying together transactions makes sense. I'm not sure how else they would do it.

This. Phone demand might have leveled off but everyone has one and that's not changing anytime soon. Unless iPhones somehow fall massively out of favour Apple will continue to sleep on a pile of money with many beautiful women.

MS, meanwhile, is putting every egg it has in the AI basket and if that doesn't pan out they will be all over its face. The reality will probably be somewhere in between but where's the revenue? Apple makes money on every iPhone; what does MS make from AI? Subscriptions to CoPilot? Bing taking over Google for search? Your Windows Chatbot You Didn't Ask For(TM) constantly advertising at you? Royalties for logos on keyboards? I don't see a lot of good answers.

Even with a Great Firewall this thing would likely just look like a phone. Surprising they wouldn't use satellite though, surely it would be more covert to aim their transmitter upwards than down.

Either way it doesn't matter how it phoned home, what matters is what information it gathered and for what purpose.

Their income is exactly the same whether I download it or not if I wasn't going to pay for it anyway.

The only reason $15 isn't enough for them is they've decided it isn't. They need to find a price that balances margins with piracy. Piracy is the only thing preventing the rates from heading to the moon.

Yeah so I hear. I have a Quest 3 but not a 15P so I'll have to look around for some vids others have recorded.

I've watched 3D and 180/360 content and the like but I think it would be more compelling to have my own shots. I won't be upgrading the phone just for that but someday it will come.
