And than apple waltzed in with the same "there is no option 1, trust us" model with iOS, and while it hasn't been perfect*, it is certainly a million times more secure out of the box than anything Microsoft has accomplished.

*apple is a bit too draconian in what they do and do not allow in the app store (porn and bitcoin right off the top of my head) and there are still enough security holes that advanced users can still force option 1 by jailbreaking/rooting through exploits.

To elaborate, I would recommend storing dates as seconds (or milliseconds if you need that resolution) since a well defined epoch in UTC (Unix uses 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, before macs switched to unix, they used January 1, 1904 and January 1, 1601 for Windows). You can go from there and convert to whatever timezone you like.

Even if there were real 3D, how would you make use of this properly? Current story telling only works because you can limit and control what people see. How will a horror movie work if half the audience can already see the guy hiding behind the rock before he leaps out? (This is just one example of a ton of problems that would arise)

I'm not sure that most people who want 3D know what they are actually asking for - personally I think 2D is perfect just leave it alone.

Have you ever seen a play with real actors in real 3D space called a theatre? Sometimes this happens, especially with unusual audience configurations such as Theatre in the Round. It is up to the director to account for the format when they are producing a show (pre-recorded or otherwise).

HFR in the Hobbit is a poor example because warner took away your choice to see it in 2D/48p. The only choices to see the Hobbit are 2D/24p, 3D/24p or 3D/48p. The only way I actually want to see the movie is in 2D/48p. I saw it in 3D/48p because I really wanted to see the HFR, and the 3D added nothing to the film. Worse, it is filled with classic audience abusing 3D gags that actually detract from the movie itself. I guess I just need to get one of these

For only $550M, why didn't Google buy the patents? That's pocket change for them (even for Sergey personally), and I'm sure Android infringes on one or more of the patents. Google could indemnify all Android manufacturers and software developers.

For only $550M, why didn't Microsoft buy the patents? That's pocket change for them (even for Balmer personally), and I'm sure Windows infringes on one or more of the patents. Microsoft could indemnify all Windows manufacturers and software developers.

Do you see the problem yet? you'd have yourself a bidding war for a patent portfolio valued at $2 billion.
