Comment I'm not that guy... (Score 1) 102

I'm not that guy that complains when things are improved, but I have a question. What home use-cases are there that can even use 2 Gb data transfer rates (let alone require it)? I'm actually curious, because I can't think of anything.

I have 150 Mb up/down (more like 170/170 in testing) and watching a 4K video barely affects it, I could stream half a dozen videos at one time and still have bandwidth available. And that's with less than a tenth of the bandwidth of a 2Gb pipe.

A US judge should be ruling based on US law in a case brought in the US.

This isn't a criminal case. Zuru is suing Glassdoor in California Court because that's where Glassdoor's head office is located. The California court ruling is that since Glassdoor operates in New Zealand it must abide by the laws of New Zealand, and it must turn over the identities of the people involved in accordance with New Zealand law. The California court is not ruling on the merits of the slander case so the free-speech or slander laws in California are immaterial. The California Court is basically saying, "since you operate globally, you must abide by the the laws in the countries you operate in".

If you visit / do business in a foreign country, you have to abide by the laws of that country -- even if they're different than the laws in your home country.

Comment The police will abuse this law (Score 4, Insightful) 154

So say you're standing 10 feet away form a cop filming, the cop will walk towards you three feet and then arrest you.

This law comes about because the police don't like their actions being recorded, too many of them (in their opinion) are getting in trouble for doing standard cop things: things like killing innocent people, arresting innocent people, battering innocent people, etc.

Comment Damned if you do... (Score 3, Interesting) 33

Apple is in a real 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation here. If the Apple store is flooded by old unsupported apps that barley work (if at all) people will complain. If apple works to weed out the old semi-functional or non-functional apps that no one is downloading people will complain.

So since more people will be complaining about old apps cluttering the store than will complain about apps no one is downloading being removed, it makes sense for apple to do a little Spring Cleaning now and again.

I used to commute ~350 miles to work once. [snip] The best current all-electric can't do it;

Tesla Model 3 has a range of 358 miles, so it can do it (and so can the Model S) and if you stopped for a coffee or breakfast (not an unlikely scenario) you can charge and build up a safety margin.
