Comment Abused, no, misused, yes (Score 1) 287

This is no different than saying 'We sell the best _____ in the state of _____' . Whether or not the statement is true is impossible to prove, but people like to hear that sort of thing. So when you hear "We make the most innovative ___ because of our __buzzword__ strategy __buzzword___ __buzzword__', you think, wow, these guys must be pros. Abused suggests there's a victim, misuse suggests there's an idiot, which I think is more applicable to this sort of thing...

Comment New UI should be the exception, not the rule (Score 1) 671

Microsoft is taking a lot of risk here. People tend to judge what is set as the default and declare anything outside that as buggy or annoying, atleast in my experience as a dev. Whether or not you like it, you have to appreciate how big their balls must be. Like cowboy neal said, it's not unlike gnome 2->3. What's happened since then? More people are moving towards Mint. I don't really know what microsoft thinks they will accomplish by adding this 'feature' May be a bit off topic, but what is wrong with traditional desktop UI's ? It has been the norm for 20 some odd years now. It's what everyone knows. It works. It's simple.

You can't make generalizations like this. What I found in college is that each class and professor needed a different strategy in order for me to succeed in consuming the information. Sometimes that meant not going to class at all, sometimes you have to write down verbatim notes, sometimes you don't take notes (usually because the prof provides lots of prepped material and the book is good). Also, what the fuck is a massively renowned expert?

In this kind of grey area of copyright infringement I think it's a mistake to favor copy right holder. I'm no lawyer but this seems like a case that wasn't actually proven beyond a reasonable doubt. This crap is so subjective to the eye of the beholder, you can't actually prove it one way or the other, so it is mistake to assume guilt (innocent till proven guilty, right?.. right??)

You've abstracted the poster's idea beyond comprehension. Yes, in your screwed up world, there is no way to distinguish between right and wrong. But wake up, we have the responsibility to distinguish between the two. There is some basic level of liberty that all people deserve, that is the only 'policy' we are discussing here. The problem in China is so bad, and I am choosing to side with those think something actually should be done.

The new tiered plan sucks, but I think it's been coming for a while. The telcos *are* selling a product which has an incredibly high demand and limited resources with which to fulfill it. I don't believe for one second that everyone will be grandfathered in for their entire life. At some point they will stick you with new higher cost plans. Personally I still see smartphones as toys, they provide a lot of 'nice to have' features, nothing I can't live without.
