It really depends on the book. Reference books get written in like crazy. The margins tend to get filled with copious notes. Art and literature get treated with more respect, especially art books. My old and rare books get looked after quite well.

New feet. The ability to walk without pain would be nice.

I have used IBM Model M's (and the new USB equivalent) and those bad boys usually last ten years or more. My oldest was Fifteen years old when I retired it due to not having any PS2 machines any more.

Remember Everex computers? Nice PCs. Horrible management.

My commute is between five and ten minutes depending on the weather. It's not a bad walk, all things considered.

Are you kidding? Office 97 was more than I ever needed. WordPad with a spell checker is more word processor than most Word users need.

Anyone who's grown up around people with substance abuse problems already knows this. Everyone I know with drug issues started out with alcohol issues.

Not as good? That really depends on what you need it for. If all you want is to able to play music or listen to audio books why do you need a pocket computer?

Yep. we've moved some of our apps to web-based clients to save a few thousand dollars in development and we end up spending millions in network upgrades to support clients in rural areas.

Most people here are too young to remember that "PC" used to mean "IBM Personal Computer Model 5150". "PC" has become a generic term.

I use my PCs (well, one's a workstation, but that's not important right now) about 85% of the time and my tablet about 15% of the time. Most of what I do on computers can't be done on a tablet. (Until they can squeeze Xeon chips and 24GB of RAM into a tablet, that is.)

My wife is the opposite. Her usage is 85% tablet and 15% PC. But she doesn't do the same things I do.

(This excludes times spent on computers at work as I have no choice in that area.)
