If we're as fucked by climate change as some seem to think, then any technological solution is probably worth a try.

We need some sort of technological solution, as you're not going to convince the world to outright ban cars/planes and meat-eating and more. And breaking the taboo around discussion of world population is almost as unlikely.

Yay, Instead of an architectural dead-end where you can at least run your own code or your own OS, you cannow have a locked-down, locked-in, App-Store-centric dead end!

This was relatively OK for phones, as you're not really going to create anything of significance on a little touchscreen. But we still need general purpose computers that we as individual owners have full control over.

In the UK/EU from 2021, I believe you've got to register your drone (or at least register as a drone operator) even if flying only sub-250g drones (if they have a camera)... That includes ~30g 'Tiny Whoop' style drones. The fear/paranoia over small unarmed drones is ridiculous. If you fear flying cameras, you should be much more worried about the hundreds of cameras recording you whenever you're out in public, not to mention the amount of systems tracking you online...

Maybe we do need to fill the void that was in the past filled by religion, and find a new way to teach kids to be decent compassionate human beings.

But there must be a way to do it without injecting the latest trends in social justice activism into mostly-unrelated subjects. Yes, teach them about the history of slavery and genocide. But that's mostly something for a history class, not a coding class.
