Tesla is already 100% doing this. There are numerous stories on Tesla enthusiast forums and YouTube channels about used Teslas being sold advertised with feature X and the new owner discovering it's not enabled, calling Tesla, and being told that "The original owner bought that feature, not you. If you want it, pony up $$".

It's probably where BMW got the idea.

Yeaaaah, no. I looked at the upgrade path this morning, as my trusty Sonos Connect is on the chopping block. The Sonos Connect patches Sonos into a receiver so a traditional stereo system can be used for Sonos output. It can also stream other input devices on your stereo (CD, turntable, etc..) to other Sonos speakers on the network. I never use that aspect of it as I only have a receiver. It's quite handy, has been working without a hitch for almost a decade, and I didn't pay all that much for it. Sonos' suggestion for an upgrade if I turn my Connect in was the Sonos Amp. All the Sonos Amp does is patch Sonos into a receiver so a traditional stereo system can be used for Sonos output. It can also stream other input devices on your stereo (CD, turntable, etc..) to other Sonos speakers on the network. The comparison between the Amp and the Connect that Sonos themselves shows on their recycle/upgrade pages shows that the Amp and the Connect are essentially the same device.

Sonos wants $650 for the Amp. I think I paid less than a third of that for the Connect. Sonos is willing to give me $150 off of a an Amp if I recycle my Connect. Yep..They're willing to offer me the low low price of FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS to replace one device with something that is, for all intents and purposes AN IDENTICAL DEVICE, but costs 3x as much. And Sonos does not provide any guarantee for how long this stupidly expensive replacement device will last before they decide to kill it, too. This situation Sonos is creating isn't about processing power and RAM, it's about Sonos losing marketshare and forcing overpriced "upgrades" in order to increase revenue.

The only two Sonos Devices I have are the Connect and a Play:3 speaker. Soon, I think, my house will become Sonos free.

Visual Studio Community is free. VIsual Studio Code is free (and open source).. I use VS Community to sync to the new Microsoft Terminal code, .NET Core code, PowerShell Core code, and PowerToys code on GitHub. I have build those, examined the code and made defect reports. I have yet to make a pull request, but that is an available option.

What was your point again regarding Microsoft, closed source, closed APIs, and expensive software?

Or, you could provide references to support your statements. Two of the four pages I found were quite apparently local news reporting on police reports - a not uncommon method of local news to gather information. Given the amount of public angst and outcry you are insinuating is occurring I doubt the local police would be ignorant of the situation.

So, on a local news outlet - on a page specifically related to sexual assault, the top three most recent news stores span approximately twenty one weeks and there is no mention of MS13, sanctuary city criminal illegal aliens etc... The three stories deal with US residents, a Virginia resident, members of athletic teams at a local high school in Maryland, and another man from North Bethesda, MD.

Not an auspicious start to back up your claims...

After that Google goes down to links for sites that provide services and assistance. None of the local news sites had anything related to your assertions.

The top four Google results for "Sexual Assault Montgomery County MD" don't come even remotely close to providing any information to back up your statements. Other than two incidents in late August the most recent other incidents are from five months ago. The suspects are all either US residents or white males or high schools students. There is no mention of issues with the sanctuary city rules, MS13 gang affiliation, or anything else you have asserted.
