Well, to be jailed, they should have done something illegal. Being French, I know the French government sometime take liberties with the rule of law but I would prefer them to avoid it. The bid was backed by French government and was aimed at "fight against terror". Being unethical doesn't make it illegal. The problem comes more from politicians than arms dealers.

Went on respective websites, searched in the main page, International, Tech and Economy pages. I guess that searching for ACTA means you already know it was signed, confirming what the original poster wrote. I must however admit I overlooked your first link in my research.

The problem comes mainly from the differences between real war and what government sells you/media shows you. War doesn't mean bringing peace with happy soldiers, impressive fireworks and no civil casualties. Yeah war is hating and killing, mutilating. People often forget that. So when an image of real war just gets out, it shocks the people who though we fought with an ethic of war. I guess this video is actually quite mild.

Nuclear disasters are not the only use case of such robots. Fire-fighting, post-earthquake/terror attack assistance etc. apart from the shielding, not much changes. An Asimo or any other humanoïd robot doesn't help much in those cases. They are good for shows or interaction with human but not for operation in hard terrains.

They are always more or less motivated people in this kind of society. I assume that if the annual subscription should be raised by 50£ (about 77$), some may leave, leaving the whole burden remaining on the really active members, eventually leading to the death of the society. It is often hard to find enough motivated people to run a society.
