Comment Re:Ah yes, Bose. (Score 1) 78

When a company intentionally REFUSES to list their technical specifications you know they are selling over-priced shit.

Many of the Bose speakers require the companion processor box for optimal fidelity. I speak from experience with the 802 speakers.

In the used market these processor boxes are often sold separately or lost. So someone buys used Bose speakers then complains that it is "over-priced shit", and they don't even operate them correctly without the box. That's user error.

A poor craftsman always blame the tool.

Back in 2012, I decided to abandon Windows for OSX. I purchased a 12-core Mac Pro, the mid-2012 model and the last of the "cheese grater" towers. I just recently upgraded it to 128GB.

Then Apple came out with the crippled "trash can" Mac Pro; now they've returned to the tower format albeit at a steep price.

Boy did I ever have good timing... And the used market prices for those mid-2012 Mac Pros are almost approaching their original retail value. When did you ever see THAT on ANY used computer?

At home I use Safari on OSX. I search Google for an item related to my hobby, and none of the websites I visit (same ones) display any ads related to that item.

As long as the latter remains the same, I will gladly be an Apple customer.

there's tons of great sci-fi books which haven't been made into movies yet. Hollywank should do one of those.

And therein lies the problem: one too many authors have been screwed out of royalties through Hollywood Accounting. The manipulative accounting has never stopped and the cost of litigation to recover stolen royalties was a negative gain. So the authors or their heirs have decided the agony was no longer worth it and have outright refused to license their stories to Hollywood.

That's why the movie business profit machine for the last twenty years has been reboots and reruns, with very little original content.

Submission + - Yahoo! Groups To Be Deleted on December 14th (arstechnica.com) 1

AnalogDiehard writes: From the article: 'Yahoo Groups is shutting down after more than 18 years, and the Verizon-owned company is deleting all content from the site in mid-December.

"Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site," the company said in a notice to users. "Beginning October 28, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded."'

Yahoo! cites declining membership and revenue as well as competition from social media as the reason for the move. Former members also blame their laborious user-hostile interface and intrusive ads. Yahoo! Groups became more and more of a ghost town as members abandoned the service in groves, and a visit there today reveals that many groups have not been active for years.

Users have until December 14th to download any files, photos, links, data et al that have been uploaded (although true to Yahoo! convention you have to download them one at a time).

I don't want ANY political stuff on my newsfeed or my timeline. I have quite a few FB friends I know from school who are using FB as a bullhorn for politics/SJW and nothing else. I don't post anything political on my timeline yet they never acknowledge anything I put there. I stopped following them long ago because I don't want their bullhorn tirades on my newsfeed. I occasionally peek at their timeline and everything they post is STILL politics. I am going to unfriend them.

When I get friend requests I always check their timeline; if it is dominated by SJW or political posts then I won't accept them. If I can't view their timeline without being friends, sorry I will not accept. I was a victim of a dating scam in the past through Facebook and I take precautions anymore.

I'm getting very tired of political ANYTHING on Facebook. The 2016 election was really bad and has burned me out. The campaigns have abused social media too much and I am tired of being deceived.

I shed no tears for the demise of Flash as it was woefully abused by marketing. I hated websites that were bloated with Flash animation and did not offer a non-Flash entry point. The horse buggy unions weren't breaking any laws either but the market did put them out of business. If the market demands EVs and the UAW will not build them, then customers will buy elsewhere and the UAW has no one to blame but themselves when the market for internal combustion engines tank.

I don't have to deal with people chatting on their mobiles, children who are disruptive, trash left behind by patrons, high priced snacks/drinks, or sticky soda spills on the floor.

I'm never going back to theaters, they have ruined the experience. The last straw was sitting through twenty minutes of ads before the feature film starts.
