CPAP machines actively spread Covid-19 due to their design. The constant positive pressure aerosolizes the viral load and pumps it into the air. Ventilators are closed loop. First responders in Washington at the very beginning were called to a nursing home with a few patients with breathing issues. The first thing they did was put everyone on CPAP to increase airflow and stabilize the patients. Unfortunately, they unwittingly spread the virus to themselves and all around the living center. Now we know better, and you may have noticed the media has stopped talking about CPAP as a possible savior.

That is a cool thought experiment to go through. Check out Bicameral Mind theory:

I always ask bilingual people what language they dream in and think in. Their answer typically depends on when they learned the languages. If they are exposed to multiple languages before the age of 5, they can usually think AND dream in both languages. People that learned a foreign language later in life have to do more translation using a completely different part of the brain. Our brains are so effing cool.

Oh, they do it regularly here. They even advertise the Cash Only price in big flashing letters on top, with the credit card price (10% higher) in small print below. I got scammed by that Shell station only once. Never bought another drop of gas from them since then.

In truth, is is against the member services agreement that you sign to open a CC merchant account to pass on the CC tax, but it's not against the law.

In business, large transactions are always done via check explicitly to avoid losing 3% to Visa. Retail customers are different, but so is the profit margin. Giving up 3% of a 40% markup is worth it for the convenience. Giving up 3% on a 10% markup eats a lot more of your profit. Like a third of it.

Yeah, we have different views of the world. If a motherfucker carrying an AK walks down my aisle, I'd shoot him without hesitation. CC holders don't carry assault weapons and walk around. I really don't think It'd be the chaos you describe.

A sizeable number of us had our SSN's effectively published by the equifax hack. You are correct though, SSN's were never meant to be a secret code. In fact, all they were really meant for was to track your social security taxes paid in to calculate your benefits paid out. It just happened to be the one truly unique identifier for every person in the US. Banks couldn't resist using it to track other financial stuff almost immediately. By the time I was in college (early 90's,) our SSN's were published next to our exam scores outside the classroom every week. In college your SSN was used for everything.

I never really understood why asking for the last four of your social was supposed to be secure. At least a thousand different institutions must have it in their electronic records by now, legitimately. Any one of them getting breached and the secret is no longer a secret, but worse. Now everyone THINKS it's a still secret but it isn't. Banks will still use it as the only info needed to start a new account.

We are so fucked.

It appears they had developed a system whose job it was is to inform the pilot if the flight control system was receiving erroneous sensor data. The two recent crashes did not have this safety feature installed. Now as to WHY a system to ensure maximum safety isn't required by regulation rather than being a billable option is beyond me.
