Not that simple.

Fixed costs will make it more expensive. Not everything is a variable cost.

It costs $12,000 for software/administrative cost for each $800 computer at work. $10,000 a year in taxes. In the US it costs $30,000 a year for health and liability insurance for someone making just $40,000 a year. Add $30,000,000 for the cost of the building and your $40,000 job cost $85,000 to an employer!

Why are wages flat? Because the costs keep getting higher and higher and your employer can't keep up with the price hikes. Just that you are not getting them.

So making everyone part time at half the wage could still double your costs.

This is the real push to India. It is not that the workers are cheaper. It is the fact you can get an office building for $250,000 not $20,000,000 for the same in San Jose. No health care costs. Taxes are 1/5th per employer. No sue happy lawyers. You can fire Djhrijad and not expect 1-800-sue-you! to come in demanding $10 million in compensation and harassment lawsuits etc. The cost of cheap Indian labor? Well yess that is a small part of it.

The US has a problem with all of the above. Conservatives whine that it is all about unions and taxes only. Fact is if we made it nearly impossible to sue and didn't have corruption and price gouging for health insurance we could hire millions more today! These costs are too much so it makes sense to overwork your existing employers right?

Yes, working 14 hours a day in a factory really does suck. But that is the first process to move up economic wise and everyone benefits.

Africans are pirating ships in Somalia not because they want to be thugs, but because there is no money to buy food. Africa has more natural resources than China and could be even more powerful than China or India if they get their shit together with infrastructure and education.

If it were not for wars, lack of infrastructure like electricity/roads, lack of education, Africa would be rich and China still poor. China has the benefits of educated citizens and infrastructure with a large population of potential consumers. It is not just because they are willing to work for cheaper.

Africa has the resources. China has some rare earth metals and some fisheries and that is about it.

CEOs get rewarded for staying behind by the shareholders for being so intelligent and industry leaders yada yada. You can't just get rid of an app unless you prove it is cheaper to do so. Windows 7 is now just forcing them. Being cool with great technology just doens't motivate.

You wont find a job elsewhere who will share your values. Everyone would happy downgrade to IE 6 if an app made them more money to do so and costs more money to be hip to be modern. Just do not be modern and everyone but you gets a nice fat bonus for being cost saver geniuses including your boss.

Also yell at Mozilla? Only IE has group policy objects, active directory integration, and other things where you can push a IE update to 90,000 workstations across 5 continents with ease. Have you managed thousands of PCs before? Only IE has this.
