Comment Re:Rave Hand Lighting (Score 1) 4

I know I know lazy this lazy that. As an individual that has a newborn I like this idea. I don't know how many times my wife has been sitting in the babies room feeding our son "ipod touch in hand for reading" in the middle of the night wanting to dim the lights to help the baby fall back to sleep. In situations like this it would be nice. Weeks in a row with minimal sleep it sure would be nice if you could just sit there and not wake the baby. Taking advantage of the SDK it would be nice to use other devices (micro-controller with sensors and such) to change the lighting in the room. Remote control when away from the house, pranks etc. The potential is endless. Also you brought up handicap technology. Knowing people that are not able to get around the house at all if any would love something like this.

"LIFX: The Light Bulb Reinvented" "LIFX is a WiFi enabled, multi-color, energy efficient LED light bulb that you control with your iPhone or Android." In addition the project description states it will include a SDK to further hack your home lighting system.

It opens the door for Java developers to provide native versions of their Java applications or libraries without any licensing restriction (e.g. embedded, real-time) and on platforms for which there is no Java runtime (e.g. iPhone). The first portage includes OSGi and JUnit. When the first OSGi bundle for iPhone?"

Regardless of how you feel about the topic of firearms a near search monopoly like Google should be held to task for an outright ban without explanation or reason or explanation.

Comment Why not professors? (Score 2) 196

Why can't you ask your professors to look at non classwork? I on more than on occasion went to my professors for non class related things. It really helped out in their classes, often times they were helpful due to the fact that I took interest outside of class in what they did. Open source is one way to have code review as posted by several other people. I find that my wife is not a good resource... She says things like "You did all that just for that, why not just use something thats already out there..." Work with upper and lower clansmen... While its true they may not have much more experience than you they do have different experience. They often times can see things different than you. Look for mentors in the industry or at work. Lots of people like to hear themselves talk so they are more than willing to ramble on to you.

Comment Re:Canon or Nikon (Score 1) 569

I mostly agree with this comment. You don't need a massive camera. Many wonderful well known photos have been taken with point and shoot cameras. What I don't agree with is point number 2... If your even simi-serious about taking photos you should learn the ins and outs of photography. Shutter speed, aperture, iso and framing the photo. It is not complex at all. While its true your not going to get an award winning photo every time 1 good picture out of 20-36 is piss poor... Take the time to set up your photo and be comfortable enough that you can manipulate your camera in a matter of seconds to get what your looking for. If your just guessing and pushing a button at random sure your only going to get 1:36 good photos. But you should shoot for 1:2-1:5 good Photos. As time goes on upgrade the camera. But its true, look for speed in the camera and settings. After you learn to shoot with manual settings and think in camera settings its difficult to go back.
