This is my exact concern too. I'm not a fan of Google Maps for driving and like you, have seen the delays (among other quirks) in the map nav. And unlike GM, Waze's integration into FB is something that's well done. Also, start time of the app in general is much quicker on my 4S. If they maintain it separately like FB did with Instagram, I'll be ok with that. However, given Googles track record and "Do Evil" stance, I'm not holding my breath.

Comment All education is a good thing (Score 1) 190

Man...I step away from /. for a few months and return to a firefight. Listen up peeps...any and all form of education is important. Always keep in mind that people learn in different ways and that no single method of teaching is correct. Having attended a higher education institution, I can honestly say that there were times when something like this would have helped me immensely unlike the tenure dullard that was teaching the course. All of these institutions understand that they need to modify how they reach people interested in learning and obviously, their hope is to get you to come to THEIR institution.

Here in the US, we have done a wonderful job of rewarding the WRONG individuals and have not stressed education enough. Just take a look at the majority of TV shows lately...or sports figures. The number of these individuals that actually have an education and can speak intelligently is in the single digits. Not exactly the role models I want my children to look up to. Also, WAAAY too much continues to be placed on personal gain and wealth. So what if I have to stab you in the back, twist the knife, get out the machete and hack you to bits. At least *I* get ahead!...again, NOT the message I want my children to go out into the world thinking.

Education in all of its forms and methods are a Good Thing (tm). If the Khan Academy is the bar that everyone else has to measure up to, then so be it. It's a better alternative to the idiot box and another spin-off of CSI:Whateverthehell or Jersey Shore.

Indian Military Hopes to Weaponize the Searing "Ghost Pepper" 267

coondoggie writes "The military in India is looking to weaponize the world's hottest chili, the bhut jolokia or 'ghost pepper,' according to a number of news outlets. The Bhut Jolokia chili pepper from Assam, India is no ordinary pepper. In tests first conducted by the New Mexico State University in 2008 and subsequently confirmed by Guinness World records and others, the Bhut Jolokia reached over one million Scoville heat units, while the next hottest, the Red Savina Habenero, clocks in at a mere 577,000. Scoville units are a universally accepted measure of chili hotness."

Obviously here in the states, this bill is a huge deal for us especially considering the price tag attached. I noticed several non-US based posters chiming in about how they don't care about this topic, etc. etc. Understandable since this is a widely read site across the globe. But instead of just posting a negative comment about our health care situation, how about helping us understand how health care works in your country. Pros...cons...whatever. Not being fully versed in what other countries offer and certainly not believing what the major news outlets spew, I figured this would be the best place to ask. Thanks.

C'mon people! I continue to be amazed at our country's puritanical stance on sex overall. Yes, child porn and abuse is a VERY bad thing and should be punished by the extreme measures of the law (yes Catholic Church...I'm talking to you) but this kind of stupidity is not acceptable. And as a parent of three, you better believe that I will be on them about sending ANY kind of picture least of all a nude one to their friends. Trust me, I'm not the one that's going to be embarrassed in public about it. If they need to learn the hard way, so be it.
