Using an Arduino Duemilanove microcontroller to drive an actual Nintendo console, pjgat09 plays back prerecorded input to beat Super Mario Brothers in record time. The selection of possible games is limited. 'If the game relies on any uninitialized memory for randomness, or if it is heavily based on console timing, it may not work. In the case of Super Mario Bros however, as long as the button presses start play back at the right time, the movie will play back correctly.' The author includes complete instructions on how to setup the device.

Submission + - Google Checkout TOS Friday Massacre 1

cmkeane writes: Google has changed its payout schedule for checkout sellers. If a seller account is linked to the android marketplace, then payouts now will be on a 15 day delay for the month following the payment, rather than on a 2 business-day continuous schedule. This appears to apply even if you don't sell anything on the marketplace. And to add insult, they emailed notice on February 11 for a change effective February 6.

For a non-profit like I work for, we used google checkout to handle our credit card transactions because the cost of PCI compliance, etc, we needed to offload it. And we can't afford to ship physical goods with google holding on to the cash for up to 45 days, So off to evaluate the other competitors in this arena. What are others' thoughts on similar services provided by paypal, amazon, etc?

Not every user is computer savvy so they may want said bloatware because it makes things "just work." Which is what a lot of non computer savvy people want. If your computer savvy and don't want the bloatware, just take if off your machine or build your own machine or wipe the os. Having bloatware on the machine isn't a problem for some people and it helps alleviate some of the cost of the commercial computer. Protip: If you factory reset a computer when you first get it it usually deletes all the bloatware. Or at least it has for me.
