Though at the same time, how many more schools are there now than there used to be? Whenever you look at just the raw numbers without looking at their percentage in the population, you risk claiming something is more prevalent even if really there are just more opportunities for it to happen.

I'm not saying I necessarily disagree with you, as there are signs indicating that they are indeed increasing, but I just want to warn you to look at the whole picture when looking at statistics.

I think the point most people disagree with is this line right here:

The proposed label would be required even if the video game in question is not violent.

Now, if this kind of label were required on games like Call of Duty, I personally wouldn't mind. But sticking this on all games, including games like Madden, SSX, Mario Kart, and all those other non-violent games out there is kind of ridiculous.

Atypical Geek writes "Alec Liu of Fox News reports that Amazon, Facebook and Google are considering a coordinated blackout of the internet to protest SOPA, the Stop Online Privacy Act being debated in Congress. From the article: 'Such a move is drastic. And though the details of exactly how it would work are unclear, it's already under consideration, according to Markham Erickson, the executive director of NetCoalition, a trade association that includes the likes of Google, PayPal, Yahoo, and Twitter. With the Senate debating the SOPA legislation at the end of January, it looks as if the tech industry's top dogs are finally adding bite to their bark, something CNET called "the nuclear option." "When the home pages of Google.com, Amazon.com, Facebook.com, and their Internet allies simultaneously turn black with anti-censorship warnings that ask users to contact politicians about a vote in the U.S. Congress the next day on SOPA," Declan McCullagh wrote, "you'll know they're finally serious."'"

After 14 years and over 15,000 stories posted, it's finally time for me to say Good-Bye to Slashdot. I created this place with my best friends in a run down house while still in college. Since then it has grown to be read by more than a million people, and has served Billions and Billions of Pages (yes, in my head I hear the voice). During my tenure I have done my best to keep Slashdot firmly grounded in its origins, but now it's time for someone else to come aboard and find the *future*. Google To Discontinue Google Labs 165

Google says closing Google Labs means ending many of their experiments. However, not every experiment will be gone. Google will be incorporating the Labs experiments they have decided to continue in other product areas. Android apps such as Google Goggles, Google Listen etc. will continue to be available in the Android Market."
